New Euro 5 diesel engine for MY 2012 Defender



The new 2.2-liter Euro 5 engine, which replaces the 2.4 Euro 4 diesel engine mounted on the MY2011, MY2012 Defender gives the new levels of performance and refinement. With the new engine that, despite the lower capacity, delivers the same values ​​of power, torque and fuel consumption of the previous year, the Defender MY2012 is presented as the "greenest" ever produced before, thanks to the particulate filter (DPF) that allows lowest possible level of emissions. The Defender MY2012, already extensively revised in 2007 (new bridge and six-speed transmission), is further improved. In addition to fitting the "S" and "SE" means become available two new option packages, new alloy wheels, ventilated disc brakes on all versions in addition to numerous innovations in the internal details. The new Euro 5 engine replaces the 2.4-liter Euro 4, retaining the same values ​​of power, torque and fuel consumption, with the addition of the DPF for the overthrow of the articulated. A new sound-proof cover replaces the previous coverage, reducing the noise generated by the engine and improving the sophistication of travel. The new engine reduces emission levels of NOx, HC and CO ₂, thanks to improved combustion systems and engine management.

Although the cylinder capacity and the reduction of emissions, the new engine delivers the same power - 122 hp at 3,500 rpm / min - and torque - 360 Nm at 2,000 rpm / min - the outgoing 2.4-liter. The performance does not change: the 100 km / h is reached in 15.8 seconds as before, although the top speed increases to 145 km / h (132 km / h in the previous version). CO ₂ emissions remain in the combined cycle of 266 g / km for the Defender 90 and 295 g / km for the 110 and 130.

The transmission GFT MT 82 six-speed also equips the MY2012, thanks to its quality: excellent distribution relationships, the optimal ratio sixth gear for road journeys, excellent ability to operate at minimum speed with the reduced ratios. The first makes small, in fact, easy to tow at very low speed and off-road and road. The powerful low-end torque makes accelerating, and the ratio of the sixth gear is in excellent transfers, refinement and economy. The high front seats, designed for maximum lumbar support, are also characterized by an optimal ergonomic headrest to facilitate driving in the toughest conditions.
