Autoradio Alpine CDE-103BT Test and Review

The new range of Alpine car will be unveiled shortly PTS Bourget. As a preview, we chose to test a model that should quickly become a bestseller in 2009. Indeed, the CDE-103BT offers excellent compatibility with mobile devices, in addition to its musical qualities.

Compatible with all mobile carriers!

At first glance, the CDE-103BT is distinguished by the presence of a front USB port. Young consumers prefer the front USB, Alpine is a natural course. But it's far from the only quality of this unit. The use of mobile devices (MP3 player, phone) drive is a must today, the CDE-103BT has almost all solutions, without having to purchase an optional element!

Benefits: almost everything is there!

Before entering the characteristics of the product, start with the design. Little change, we find immediately the signature of Alpine, a mixture of class and high-tech. Alpine is one of the few brands where design is so much unanimity, one might change that soon. However, for the CDE-103BT fits perfectly with the dashboard, its keys feature a variocolor, to illuminate them in blue, green, red or amber. The display will remain blank to keep a perfect legibility at a glance. This handset is of course compatible with the original steering wheel controls. To use an MP3 player, the CDE-103BT has almost all solutions (it only lacks the SD card). On the front it has a USB port and an auxiliary input minijack for connecting the headphone output of any MP3 player. Via Full Speed interface built and supplied cable, you can control an iPod or iPhone.

The CDE-103BT is compatible iPod and iPhone

For telephony, the CDE-103BT has a hands-free Bluetooth Parrot. The Bluetooth feature allows access to the directory and call log the phone. To provide a perfect communication quality, an external sensor is provided. For the receiver part, it has an RDS tuner with 18 FM memory, a CD player and amplifier 4x50 Watts. The wafer reader is compatible with digital 3 formats (MP3, WMA and AAC). If the power amp's not enough, two line outputs that can be independent of the slider are present. Finally, for the sound settings, you can enjoy the traditional Alpine Equalizer Bass Engine, a loudness and a high-pass active filter. In fact, apart from an IR remote control for the passenger, it lacks almost nothing.

Musically, the CD will appeal to a wide majority

Discover and use: simple and Music!

From a usage point of view, this handset is simple to Alpine to pick up. The main keys are grouped around the rotary, the interface is really good. Research in the playlists from an iPod or a USB key is very simple. For cons, the display is a bit small. We are obliged to wait for the scrolling titles to validate or not the song in a search. If the MP3 files are "tagged" with long titles, this is not as practical as a full display of playlists. This is the main criticism we have to make against this unit. The sound quality of course depend on the compressed files. However, we appreciate the phone button to access functions on the phone.

The CDE-103BT has a hands-free kit

With Bluetooth and iPod control, you can use an iPhone completely. Control by taking the iPod can play music, while Bluetooth allows you to call. Phone use poses no concern, the communication quality is very good. Parrot is a reference in this field. True technology from Alpine, the CD offers a very good musicianship. Radio reception is fast and free of parasites. The integrated amplifier delivers good dynamics and host without regard to the HP Classic. But if one wishes to use high-end loudspeakers, better off putting an amplifier on the line outputs. It is also the option of Alpine KTP-445, a small digital amp 4x100 watts which is "plug and play on the radio. An excellent solution for simple installation and efficient.

The notice of carentertainmentgeek.com

The front USB port was needed because the market demanded it, but be careful not to hit a key on the front of a knee, if not bye the facade. That is why we prefer the USB ports on cable. In any case, the CDE-103BT has many strengths to become a bestseller at Alpine. It contains the qualities of an Alpine car stereo: musicality, build quality, good ergonomics, elegant design ... And especially this model is open on mobile technologies. USB, iPod, auxiliary, everything is there. We also appreciate the hands-free kit with very good communication quality. Finally, not to spoil anything, the price is very reasonable. The CDE-103BT has certainly excellent value for money!
