Multimedia handset Xzent XT8020 Test and Review

Appeared on the market since 2008 show in Sinsheim, Xzent is a brand that specializes in multimedia system. Owned by German Zenec (CAB) has been designed to offer multimedia products priced very attractive to young consumers. We chose to test its flagship product, Double Din XT8020!

It has everything except a great price!

To lower the prices of these products has not declined Xzent product quality as we see too often. The products therefore continue to use technology Zenec, starting with the excellent screen. In contrast, decreased Xzent functions to focus only on the essentials. For starters, more motorized front panel, this makes the product less brittle and less expensive. Different sources have been limited to the essentials, thus offering the XT8020 a very attractive price!

Benefits: excellent browser!

As mentioned in the introduction, manufacturing is far from being neglected. The XT8020 has a beautiful finish. Front black lacquer, white illumination, small knob, connectors front concealed by a small stream, the XT8020 is really very elegant. Few keys on the front, just a few direct access, as this handset has a touch screen of 6.2 inches. With its small icons, the interface looks great too. From a performance standpoint, the highlight of this handset is Xzent course its integrated browser. And not just any! This is the same as stations Zenec ZE-MC520 and 510, running Igo 8. Only difference, it does not have the 3D buildings (admittedly beautiful, but actually not necessary). For the rest, 3D European maps, speed camera, POI, functionality is the same browser. The mapping is stored on an SD card of 2 GB, which is inserted behind the small flap on the front, right next to the USB port.

The XT8020 has a browser Xzent Igo 8

Xzent deleted the iPod control. Instead, it has a USB port and SD slot, which can also be used to read compressed files (MP3, WMA, ...). The DVD player is DivX 6 in addition to traditional audio formats. To connect other video sources, it boasts 2 audio / video inputs, including one in front as a mini jack. Add to this the traditional functions such as back-up camera input, RDS tuner with 18 FM and memories 4x40 watt amplification. No output 5.1, but a sub output is present to manage a subwoofer channel. For sound settings, the preamp has a 2-band EQ with selectable frequency corrections. To put the video for passengers, the XT8020 has 2 video outputs.

A front USB port lets you play MP3s or DivX

The XT8020 comes with an IR remote, but it is also compatible with the original steering wheel controls, via an optional interface. GPS and mapping on SD card, DVD to restore the mapping, are of course supplied with Double Din. In short, no features ultra high-tech or sophisticated, but the point is there to enjoy multimedia drive. Our biggest complaint about this unit is the lack of Bluetooth phones, which function is still needed today (at least to a hands-free independent course).

Discover and use: a very beautiful image and very good feature!

In use, the handset Xzent was very pleasant. The graphical interface is simple and intuitive, although the menus are in French of course. The Player control golden patties can use the DVD menu (disk) directly by touch screen. This is not the prettiest interface, but it is modern and well. We will not talk again 107 years of the browser, since we have discussed in detail with the test of the ZE-MC520 late last year. Remind one of its major assets: it starts very quickly with the ignition of the car. Entering a destination is very simple and the route calculation fast. The guide is accurate and efficient. We regret only the absence of TMC to navigate, taking into account the real-time traffic. By cons, we appreciate the total freedom to zoom in and position the map.

Image quality, and dynamic music listening, we really happy with the DVD player

The USB control is easy, the system detects the type of files, directories and titles. It handles very easily use music playlists. The sound quality will of course depend on the quality of compressed files. The same ease of use with the DVD player and SD slot. By cons, if you want to use an SD full of music files, it will remove the SD card navigation. The DVD offers very good listener. This is not an audiophile player, but it is dynamic and well stamped, able to satisfy the majority. In video mode, it welcomes back the screen quality Zenec. The image is colorful, bright and offers good contrast. Dark scenes or DVDs go together perfectly. Finally, even if it is smaller (6.2 inches cons 7), the screen is enough to fully enjoy the video. No particular concerns with the RDS. The internal amplifier shows a good dynamic. Not enough to afford high sound levels, but the power and attacks are more than adequate for listening to music in everyday life. You only add a small box on the output active bass to afford the big show with ease.

The notice of carentertainmentgeek.com

This is not a source to produce a super high-end installation or a facility to achieve audiophile, but everything is there to have a working installation, efficient and affordable. The browser is powerful and practical. The screen offers a very beautiful image and very good DVD playback quality. For the typical 4-HP, the amp offers a good dynamic. The USB port can take advantage of its digital library with ease. In fact, the biggest criticism is the lack of Bluetooth hands-free telephony.

A / V input on the front for connecting a portable media player

No TMC or control iPod either, but it was in the hands of a quality product, well built, powerful and on sources that offer, and that's essentially it. In addition, we also appreciate its great design and elegant. Also note, that this multimedia handset is compatible with steering wheel controls of origin, rather in this price range (especially when it's not a big Japanese brand). At 699 Euros, the XT8020 Xzent certainly offers good value for money great!
