Alpine PKG-2000P A Overhead Monitor

What better way than to wait for the video the children during the long summer travel? As a leader in embedded multimedia, Alpine is one of the few brands to offer ceiling screens with WVGA resolution. We chose to test the PKG-2000P, a screen offering more scalability interesting!

A real little rear-seat cinema!

In some cars, it is not possible to install screens in the headrests, and in this case, the only solution is the overhead monitor. The overhead monitor has another advantage: it offers a great picture, while the headrest screens are limited to 7 inches overall. Certainly, it will manage the duels between toddlers to the choice of film to be broadcast, but an overhead monitor their viewing comfort bring much higher, especially in a minivan or a large vehicle. Screen quality, possibility of evolution, the PKG-2000P has seemed to us very interesting.

Benefits: functional, but lacks the DivX!

The PKG-2000P is an overhead monitor with integrated DVD player into the cradle. To cope with different skies car roof (some are too thin to hide the connection), Alpine delivers a spacer that is used or not. Quality plastics, quality of assembly, this product is really good. As the assembly of a ceiling screen usually remove the ceiling of the car, the PKG-2000P incorporates two LED lights to ceiling. The DVD slot is placed on the front of the camera, thus remaining easily accessible. Some keys to control critical functions in case of battery failure on the IR remote supplied. After this little physical presentation, now turn benefits the PKG-2000P.

A / V input placed at the rear allows to quickly connect a camcorder

This display offers a 25-inch 16:9 format in high resolution (WVGA to 1.15 million pixels). Warning, this is not of high resolution in the sense we understand it home for flat screens, but the resolution and quality of this screen Alpine is well above average. The DVD player is compatible with burned discs, but not with compressed formats like DivX. Too bad, because this format is very popular for young audiences. To connect other sources, this screen has 3 audio / video inputs including one placed at the rear of the base to quickly connect a portable media player or a camcorder. The screen also has an S-video input, this can help connect a PC, but we would have preferred a true VGA input to connect a Netbook. An audio / video feed to another screen is also present.

A wireless headset is provided with the screen

To avoid disturbing the driver, this screen has an IR transmitter for wireless headphones. A helmet is provided with the screen. Another interesting element, you can connect the Alpine tuner (optional) on this screen and control it with buttons on the screen or the IR remote. It lacks the PKG-2000P USB port for connecting mobile carriers. But Alpine offers an interesting alternative option: an iPod interface for viewing the audio / video from an Apple player. Apart from USB and DivX playback, this screen Alpine is really full.

Discover and use: a dramatic picture!

As we said in the presentation, this screen provides a nice finish with quality plastics. The white LED screen replaces the small dome of origin. The highlight of this screen Alpine is of course the image quality. Bright, colorful, fluid, high contrast, image is nothing short of amazing. Even with a film takes place entirely at night as "Assault on Precinct 13", it enjoys a very beautiful image. Whether it's for a cartoon or movie, there is sure to be pleased with this screen. The player has very good resistance to shocks from the road, it takes a lot for him at fault. For listening, we connected the audio output of PKG-2000P on an amp.

The remote can also be used to control the tuner Alpine

We have always offered a listening and musical dynamics. The helmet is not provided the level of high-end home headphones, but its quality is largely sufficient to use nice car. Its lightness on the head will be appreciated by children. If you do not want to put a helmet on their head, you can use the FM transmitter of the screen to play sound on the original car radio. In fact, no major criticisms to make on this screen. At least by the quality of the product! It especially criticized the lack of DivX and USB port. But when the PKG-2000P is out, USB and DivX were not as developed in car audio. It is therefore understandable that absence. And then, the image quality will prefer a good DVD to take full advantage of the screen!

The notice of carentertainmentgeek.com

The lack of DivX is really boring? In our opinion no! The quality of DivX compression is not always good, and nothing can replace a good DVD on a good display. Then, with a portable media player like Archos and audio / video cord, there is always the possibility of disseminating DivX on this screen. Then, its image quality, its possibilities of evolution (tuner module, iPod), appeared far more interesting than the ability to play DivX on DVD. The price is certainly quite high, but cheaper screens often provide poorer image quality. In short, to put a high quality video to the rear seats, the Alpine PKG-2000P is an excellent choice.

As usual, Alpine, this screen has excellent quality construction and finishing
