Opel Insignia OPC station wagon

Spearheading the Insignia range, the break OPC is the fighter of the Opel range. This luxury car is equipped with a radio source with HP, but multimedia and hi-fi are optional. Our test version was equipped with high-end features of the brand: a multimedia station with GPS and a hi-fi Infinity signed.

An efficient and accessible, but some gaps!

Opel offers several audio and multimedia systems for the Insignia. We have the choice between a classic car, a mid-range multimedia system with GPS and high-end multimedia system (Navigation DVD 800). The optional Infinity stereo is only available with high-end multimedia system. The CPB is the flagship of the Insignia line, our test model was equipped with both options. Of note is the presence (optionally) a power inverter with 230 volt outlet located at the rear of the center console. This will allow rear passengers to easily recharge a portable game console (PSP for example).

Benefits: Functional, but no video function!

The DVD 800 navigation system consists of a 7-inch color screen in the center of the dashboard and a large central unit that occupies the entire center console. Damage against the screen is not touch, it's still more convenient and faster than the rotary control placed near the gear lever. However, this lack is compensated by the presence of a voice command accessed by a button on the steering wheel. The CPU may seem impressive, but it also onboard computer. As you see in the photo gallery, she adjusts the car in Sport mode, to intervene in the management of air conditioning, ...

Occupying the entire center console, the multimedia system also allows to manage many features of the car

The point of this system is its multimedia navigation system. Mapping provided on a DVD-Rom loads into the flash memory unit. This provides a European map with POI and tour guide. TMC is also present to navigate, taking into account the real-time traffic. Apart from the speed camera alerts, this navigation system provides all the usual functions. The DVD-ROM into the CPU does not play DVD video, DVD is its function limited to the DVD map. The video is certainly needed by the driver, but it's still nice to relax during breaks while traveling. However, this player plays normal CDs and MP3 CDs. Automatic memory, memories of favorite radio station, Radio Text, RDS tuner is complete and classic. This handset also has Bluetooth for phone in the car.

Injury, the player does not DVD video

Opel has not forgotten users of mobile sources. This unit is equipped with an auxiliary input jack and mini USB port. The USB port is also where does the audio playback. However, it can control an iPod with a display of titles and playlist management. However, it is unfortunate that the iPod does not control the record covers. These jacks are placed in the center armrest. Enough practice, it will conveniently accommodate the MP3 player or even mobile phones. In contrast, the cigarette lighter socket is poorly placed. It is too narrow in housing, independent housing for the MP3 player. If we have to recharge a mobile device, it prevents the lid from closing properly center armrest. To finish with the presentation of the multimedia system, he criticized the complete lack of video capabilities, an audio / video at least would have been welcome.

An auxiliary input and USB port are present in the center armrest

Now to the hi-fi system developed by Infinity. It consists of 9 speakers and a 7x45 watt amplifier. The front channels are formed by a separate 2-way kit placed in the front door (woofer and tweeter sill plate on the outside rearview mirror). The rear channels are satisfied with a coaxial placed at the bottom of door. At the center of the dashboard, it has a center channel. Finally, the last two HP of the plant are small subwoofers. They are mounted in cabinet under the boot carpet behind the rear seat. Only the claw Infinity grids HP distinguishes this system. For a luxury car, sports, we would have liked a bit more grid appearance (eg aluminum strapping).

The Insignia OPC is equipped with a hi-fi Infinity

Before turning to listen and use, let's talk about funding, because if the music is a passion, money is always present. The Infinity is charged 500 Euros, while it will cost 1500 Euros for this high-end multimedia system. The optional 230-volt outlet for rear passengers is up to 110 Euros. It is surprising that Opel cons is not thought to offer an optional video system for rear passengers. But it's not very serious because of quality aftermarket products are not lacking in this area.

Discover and use: listening well modulated, but a box a bit lighter!

Start with use. Except for some functions of settings on-board computer may require reading the manual, this system is used Navigation DVD 800 pretty easily. The rotary near the shift lever allows you to enter a destination quickly in the browser. It is also used to make adjustments to the onboard computer. By cons to use it on some functions, you must first press a button on the unit (configuration example). This is not very logical or rule from which everything is also a rotary control, or is adjusted by the rotary control, but both is a bit confusing. Finally, it is primarily a hand to take, but it does not replace the convenience of a touchscreen. However, we appreciate the presence of a voice command.

On such a beautiful screen, too bad the iPod does not control the record covers

Using the CD player and radio tuner are very traditional and does not worry. Same fight, control iPod playback or USB media are just with access to playlists and displays titles. By cons, it is unfortunate that the iPod does not control the record covers.

A very good browser!

Entering a destination address management favorite, fast calculations, fast ignition, the GPS of the Insignia is truly effective. These guides are accurate and he has always conducted its destination. The mapping is not the most beautiful, but it offers good readability. We especially appreciate the screen that splits into two when approaching an intersection direction on pictographs left of the screen and map on the right. In practice, it is very practical. Apart from some modern features and missing safety camera (it does have the merit of preventing when over the speed limit), we do not wholesale to reproach this GPS. It is efficient and accurate.

A center channel is located in the center of the dashboard

Listening is generally pleasant for the original system. The HP Infinity offers a good tone, melodic, clear and quite warm. The sound is high and many roads in the center of the car. The middle lane is for many, but we would have liked to adjust the volume. Off the radio settings only allow classical balance / fader. In some cases, the center channel is too intrusive, too bad that this adjustment is not expected. To the ear, the bass is fairly well forward, but broke the kit could give better results with better soundproofing doors. While overall, we enjoyed listening, the box has disappointed him. It is singularly lacking in fisheries and generates noise at high volume.

The subwoofer inefficiency

On the variety, it produces a severe fine, but we are still forced to play with the equalizer to have a really nice record. By cons on techno or rap good bass, then this is not terrible. If we want to afford a good feeling in the lower frequencies, push the spell of severe almost completely. On average sound level, it still passes, but high-volume, the sound quality deteriorates. The casing is made of PVC and lack of rigidity, which creates unwanted vibrations. Moreover, it is inadequately secured to the car, which also generates noise. You can always try to improve things with the soundproofing, but the best is yet to redo the MDF box if you feel the soul of a cabinetmaker, again because the original form requires some work.

The HP Infinity timbrent well, but the lack of soundproofing doors

The amplification offers a clean and allows you to listen hard, but the attacks are not fast enough. This is particularly visible on some music. For the average person who is not fascinated by the sound, this system should be fine, but music lovers will need to improve.

In conclusion:

Overall, this original system is not bad at all, and Opel has even made a big effort from its previous-generation car. On the Infinity, the grave we were disappointed, but at the same time to 500 Euros, you can not be too demanding for a complete system with 9 HP and an amp. The system is ample and above the average for the general public, but for music lovers, it will review a little system. But reiterate the, 500 Euros, it is rather good value for money! GPS is certainly very good, but we find the addition too salty for the media source. It lacks features like traffic alerts, video, display album covers for the iPod. In the market for the aftermarket to 1500 Euros, we have a double DIN multimedia handset on top among big Japanese brands.

IPod control is compatible with the latest Nano and iTouch

Both the voice command is a real plus that we do not find much in the aftermarket, as the various commands would benefit from being replaced by a touchscreen. It is understandable that Opel is not desired DVD playback (security forces), but an audio / video could have been present. Even if it is a powerful car, a break is near a station wagon, and it is not even a video option for the rear passengers. In short, the complete option may be chosen, but it will take to improve a specialist in the aftermarket if you want to have fun. Cool the converter to connect a games console, but it will add an overhead monitor (preferable to avoid cutting through the superb Recaro bucket). But this is not what is lacking in the market for the aftermarket. Option Total cost to 2110 Euros. It is a sum and the installation is not perfect, but still emphasize the efforts of Opel on rate, as its German competitors are generally much more expensive, a result that is not necessarily better!
