Alcatel-Lucent Unveils LTE Connected Car

As one of the founding members of the NC program Connect, Alcatel-Lucent recently introduced in France a prototype of what could be the car of tomorrow connected with LTE. This concept is mounted on a Toyota Prius prefigures the electronics of tomorrow.

Before presenting the system a bit, explain what LTE. In English, means LTE Long Term Evolution. Clearly, this mobile broadband, far more powerful than the current 3G. In some ways, it would become the successor of 3G and then a car would be a real handheld. NG founding member of Connect, Alcatel-Lucent is working with many other partners (Toyota, LG Electronics, Fishlabs, SIGNEXX, ...) to develop this new system on-board electronics. Goal?Offer the motorist and passengers of new services, whether for driving assistance (navigation, phone, access to the info in time) or for entertainment (video games, surfing the net, games online, video streaming, ...). All these partners work together to develop this mobile broadband network, terminals and applications to take advantage. A first very convincing demonstration has been made on a 2010 Toyota Prius by Alcatel-Lucent. For now, this is only a concept car, for LTE networks are being developed, but it is clear that such a system will revolutionize the electronics. Today, we spend more and more time in his car, so we still need to stay connected, as can be with his home PC. Prius demonstration consisted of 4 9-inch touchscreen and a CPU.

Two screens are built into the headrests for rear passengers. The driver benefits from a screen instead of the usual car and the other front screen is embedded in the dashboard above the glove box. Thus, each passenger has an autonomous system to access what they want Internet, video streaming, streaming music, video games, video games and even networking.Alcatel-Lucent we made a bluffing game demo completely networked with the system. The speed of LTE allows the car to be a real computer terminal. The driver takes advantage of the navigation, the ability to use Google Maps, real time information (traffic, weather, ...), telephone and music. Depending on the applications developed for these terminals, there is virtually no limit. Via a secure connection, you can even access the server computer from his home. For those working in cars, office applications are also possible. And no need for a complicated system in the car, since LTE allows quick access to computer servers to use information or entertainment. For now, it's still a bit futuristic, but it is obvious that this is the future.
