Understanding Car Audio Amplifier Specifications

Add caption

The data specification is quite important in determining whether the amplifier to meet the needs of system car audio you or not, so before determining the amplifier to be used, it's good to pay attention to manufacturer specifications givenamplifier. An example of specification car audio amplifier for the amplifier is: "50watts X 4 RMS all channels driven continuously into 4 ohms with Less Than 0.1% THD from 20Hz to 20kHz".
"50watts" explains the magnitude of the poweramplifier is 50watt per channel.
"X 4"means that the amplifier audio car has 4 channels
"RMS"stands for"root mean square"and is the method of measurement of an AC waveform. It is important here that the measurement is not at the time of the amplifier to work at the point of maximum or "peak".
"All channels driven,"explained that the measurement is made at the time of the amplifier to work in conditions of maximum, an amplifier capable of producing power for 50watt at the same time in each channel.
"Continuously"means that the measurements performed using continuous wave, the signal to test work quickly and not only once. Amplifier capable of producing high power when measured with a short time and only measured once. Therefore, the measurement amplifier must be "continuous"to find out the real capabilities.
"into 4ohms"means that the power measurements made using a 4 ohm resistor as a dummy load. Indeed, another dummy load with 4 ohm speakers but this dummy load can be used as size standards to determine the strength of the amplifier.
"with Less than 0.1% THD"describes the level of distortion that comes out because the amount of poweramplifiers are. THD stands for "total harmonic distortion"which is one standard to measure the distortion of an amplifier.
"from 20Hz to 20kHz"describes the range of frequencies that can be produced, with a picture specification that the amplifier can produce the sound "from 20Hz to 20kHz", is expected to help give an idea early in choosing the amplifier. But it's good to pay more attention to the graph specification in more depth. There are some amps have a power curve that falls on the low and high frequencies.
This specification is only an overview and to get real results is a good idea to test directly on a selected amplifier .. In order not to be disappointed after buying.
