Peugeot 308 CC Car Audio Review

Most recent on the market, the new Peugeot 308 CC will quickly seduce lovers convertible coupe. On the occasion of the Frankfurt show, we could have for a week and 2000 km of high-end multimedia system fitted WIP Com 3D Peugeot!

An efficient and almost perfect!

For this test, we had a 2-liter model HDI 140 PS finished in Feline. With all the finishing options such as leather, power seats, xenon directional headlights, and especially a fairly complete multimedia system, the lioness has allowed us to assess the progress made in comfort aboard coupe-cabriolet. But our specialty is the car audio come in directly to what concerns us most in a car multimedia and sound. Having used the car in Germany about 2000 km, we were able to fully test the system and appreciate the quality and defects. The least we can say is that Peugeot has really made great efforts to equip its cars in multimedia.

Benefits: Relatively complete!

Our version was equipped with the system WIP Com 3D multimedia source and installed JBL sound. Depending on the version of the car, these systems are priced at their respective 1960 and 500 Euros. When the 308 CC is chosen Feline finish, the system WIP Com 3D Euro 1060 is sold, a rate significantly more attractive. Let's see what we Peugeot offers for the award. WIP Com 3D system consists of a 7-inch screen and a central processing unit a little larger than a double din. Logically enough, the screen is placed on top of the dashboard and is electrically retractable. The CPU sits in the center console.

TMC, 3D mapping, Text-To-Speech, the 308 CC is equipped with a comprehensive browser

For multimedia, the source has a browser with Europe maps stored on a hard drive 40 GB TMC, 3D mapping, Text-To-Speech, extensive POI library, dual view display, assistant traffic lanes, this browser is truly complete. It can even be ordered from the track with a voice command. For music, the source WIP Com 3D features an FM RDS tuner, DVD player, an auxiliary audio / video and a USB port. Unfortunately, no iPod control, and that's the main negative point of this installation. However, it has an SD slot. Apart from music, it allows for updates of the system. The auxiliary video input and DVD player (video) only works off. 10 GB hard disk can be used to store music in MP3. Peugeot has not forgotten the phone. The system offers two systems: the pair to any Bluetooth mobile phone, and a real phone with SIM card reader. This will be particularly useful if you want to activate the SOS Assistance Peugeot.

Bluetooth, USB, SD, A / V input, the system offers a clear view of the mobile sources

Finally, the system is coupled to sensors back and gives the distances from the obstacle on the video screen system. Too bad that Peugeot is not added a rearview camera. However, in addition to voice control, we appreciated the steering wheel. As a joystick and placed right behind the wheel, it provides access to basic functions without releasing the steering wheel. Even more significant for the driver, a small monochrome display is placed between two counters of the car. In addition to these functions on-board computer (fuel consumption, average speed, ...), it delivers multimedia information system (radio frequency, CD title, pictograms of the direction of the browser, ...). The audio / video is placed in the glove box and takes the form of RCA. This will allow you to easily connect a portable source. The USB port is housed in the small central armrest which also serves as a vacuum bag.

In the center armrest, it has a USB port

For audio, our 308 CC was equipped with the JBL. This kit consists of a two-lane roads separate front, coaxial to the rear channels and a digital amplifier 240 watts. The front tweeters are typically positioned on the dashboard, while taking up the woofers in the doors. The coax is installed in the rear flanks on the sides of the rear seat, a position a little too low for our taste.

Discover and use: simple and really effective!

Before discussing the performance, start with the ergonomics of the system. The GUI is not nearly as beautiful as some aftermarket springs, but it has the merit of a very good readability. The device is intuitive and easy to take in hand. Only certain ancillary functions of the browser and lack of intuitiveness required to read the manual to make these adjustments (nothing really serious at all). The video screen is ideally placed in the field of vision. If we use only the radio or CD, we are not obliged to leave, since mono block counters display provides all information. The CPU has very good ergonomics. She has two rotary controls.

From a usage point of view, the handset has good ergonomics

Aesthetically, it is not not necessarily what is best, but question effectiveness is remarkable. The small left knob controls the volume, while the large order is in fact a central validation joystick to move through menus of functions. Compared to systems such as "iDrive" placed near the gear box, the system chosen by Peugeot is much more convenient because it falls naturally to hand. In short, the WIP Com 3D is handled very easily.

A very good browser

On the aesthetic point of view, rubber keys, chrome, black lacquer, Peugeot neat finish his system. The lake attracts too much dust, but it shows really well. Regarding the design, our criticism will focus on the graphical interface that we would have liked more fun with small icons, as is done on some double Din. Performance issue, let the browser. Programming a destination is relatively straightforward. We prefer touchscreens, but the knob can move quickly through menus. Voice programming is also no problem, but only in stages. There was no opportunity to return a destination by a single voice command. Route calculation is very fast, and the system offers 3 options before validation: the fastest, shortest, most optimized time (taking into account the TMC). Tested in all three cases, the WIP Com 3D has always conducted its destination. The mapping display is beautiful with 3D icons and POI. At any time, the rotary control allows you to zoom on the map. When approaching a destination, it has a dual display: mapping assistant and left lanes on the right with road sign and symbol. Combined with Text-To-Speech, it is really impossible to get lost. The guide is accurate, and continues to operate in the absence of GPS signals (eg tunnel). Tested up in the backwoods of Germany, we were always fully guided.

Whether for browsing or video, 3D WIP Com has a great screen

The Bluetooth function works perfectly well and makes telephone calls without worry. Now to the music. The FM tuner provides a very good reception, free of humming and noise. From a musical point of view, the system has been quite pleasant, and even performance. It does not perform an aftermarket stereo system, but it is still really fun. Listening is clear and dynamic sound with good stamps. The bass are present, but on modern music at high volumes, the woofers admit their limits on technology, the lack of a subwoofer is felt. But for listening to the quiet day, the pleasure of listening is really there.

The JBL has a very pleasant listening

HP offers the JBL sound good, and we particularly appreciate the dynamism of the digital amplifier. Clearly, the music lives well. For a coupe cabriolet, the 308 CC is very well soundproofed. Even at good speed on the highway, it retains a good listener. By cons on some music, it feels a little too large distance between the woofer and tweeter. A better choice of cutoff frequency or perhaps a 3-way system would have been preferable. In video mode, the screen offers a very beautiful image, what have some fun during breaks on the highway. The use of USB support is very easy. The system immediately recognizes the different directories, and you can sail in through the rotary control.

Placed in the glove box, the audio / video input allows easy connection of portable devices

In conclusion:

Both systems back to 2460 Euros. From a pricing perspective, the unit WIP Com 3D to 1960 Euros is much more expensive than a combined double Din upscale, but it offers the advantage of perfect integration. In contrast, double din aftermarket offers more functionality as the iPod or backup camera. The absence of a reversing camera and iPod control are also the main negative points of this installation. The price is high, but the system is fairly complete and works really well, unlike some manufacturers options that we tested. By cons, if you bought his 308 CC Feline finish, this option is an excellent deal. Digital amplifier, Bluetooth, USB, excellent browser, hard drive for storing music, ..., to 1560 Euros, difficult to ask for more, and here the price is really attractive! Listening is certainly not that of a hi-fi high end, but it is pleasant and qualitative and anyway fill "Mr Tout le Monde" daily. And then with the active subwoofer with an entry level, interfaces (OEM V Hub at Alpine and iPod for example), there is nothing to optimize the facility, while maintaining that perfect integration. In any case, Peugeot has really made great efforts to equip its vehicles in multimedia, and it really deserved to be tested!
