BMW X1 Car Audio Review

After the X3 and the X6, BMW is expanding its range of four wheel drive in the X1, which has swelled the size of the 1 Series. Halfway between the urban and 4x4 compact sport sedan, the X1 should quickly attract motorists. As usual, BMW iDrive multimedia system offers on the X1.

Harman Kardon an installation option !

Like other BMW X1 multimedia system is optional or standard depending on model. It consists of three elements: a screen, a CPU and a joystick control called iDrive. Remember that this is a sort of wheel with central validation and some orders around, a bit like an iPod. You move a cursor and selecting the desired function is very convenient to use. To fall well under the driver's hand, this control system is placed just behind the gearshift. The core functions will also control the steering wheel. As usual, the screen is located in the top center of the dashboard.

According to the source model, it offers a dimension of 6.5 or 8.8 inches. A nice screen size, which offers very good viewing comfort. The screen doubles as a display for air conditioning. Basic unit is the laser model with RDS and auxiliary input for connecting mobile sources. Optionally, you can add a USB input, but the most interesting and certainly the most complete option is of course the Business and Professional. On this model, the CD is replaced by a DVD player.

USB, Bluetooth, GPS, the source is relatively complete

This option allows to have the big screen and especially a GPS with Europe maps to move around easily. The map data is stored in a disk drive. In addition to the system Park Distance Control (Parking sensor), this system can receive a rearview camera that displays images on its color screen. The navigation system can also be enriched with Bluetooth phones and MP3 playback from a mobile phone. When the system is equipped with Bluetooth, it then has a third possibility of controlling the system: speech recognition.

On the high-end system, the X1 features a beautiful 8.8 inch screen

Note also the ability to customize the iDrive control with buttons to access frequently used functions. The basic installation is content with 6 speakers: a kit exploded in front doors and HP in the rear doors. Optionally, you can opt for the hi-fi Professional which is signed by Harman Kardon. The system then consists of an amplifier with equalizer and 10 speakers for each passenger that takes full advantage of the music. Note also the possibility of adding a CD changer option. For rear passengers, the announcement does not mention the multimedia system, but we will discover more about the X1 at the Frankfurt show in September.
