Skoda Kamiq : presented the third member of the Skoda SUV range , now complete thanks to the presence in segments B, C and D with three models accumulated by at least 4 fundamental "constants": name that starts with K and ends with Q, lots of space in relationship to dimensions, design more and more refined and a lot of technology.
Born to fit in a segment that in 2018 constituted 29% of the European market (2,000,000 units), Skoda Kamiq represents the latest SUV in a Skoda range that today includes Kodiaq (the flagship of segment D, also available in the recently tested Skoda Kodiaq RS sports version ) and Karoq (segment C). Nothing to do with the Kamiq presented in 2018 for the Chinese market alone: in this case, the platform is the MQB A0 , which already finds its place under the Audi A1, Volkswagen Polo and T-Cross, Seat Ibiza and Arona. We will see it premiered at the Geneva Motor Show (5-17 March).
Skoda Kamiq Dimension |
In terms of size , Skoda Kamiq fits in halfway between a Volkswagen T-Cross and a Skoda Karoq, with a length of 4.24 meters , a width of 1.79 m and a height of 1.53 m. Despite this, the car offers a step of 2.65 m , higher than that of the same Karoq (2.62 m). The merit is of the MQB A0 platform , extended for the occasion. All this is reflected in the interior space: the luggage compartment offers 400 to 1,395 liters of capacity , while for passengers there is an average of 73 mm of space for the knees. The loading platform, thanks to the possibility of lowering the backrest of the front passenger seat, offers a length that can load a 2.5 meter long neck.
The style is inspired by the latest Skoda models, but the car has its own personality thanks to some unpublished elements, such as split optic units (always with LEDs on all versions, with dynamic direction indicators for the richer versions) from the design more squared and the horizontal rear lights . Present, as on Skoda Scala , also the SKODA lettering in large letters on the tailgate, instead of the classic circular logo. The surfaces take up the family feeling of the brand, with sharp and angular lines made possible by hot stamping of the sheets. In essence, the Skoda designers, led by Oliver Stefani, have respected the canons introduced with the interestingSkoda Vision X hybrid methane concept presented last year at the Geneva Motor Show .
Skoda Engine |
The ADAS equipment is similar to that of the older sisters: the standard Front Assist (with Emergency Braking and Predictive Pedestrian Protection) and Lane Assist. Optional Adaptive Cruise Control (up to 210 km / h) with stop & go function (automatic within 3 seconds of standstill) in conjunction with the DSG gearbox, the fatigue detector, the Crew Protect Assist (closes the open windows and pretension belts for reduce damage in case of impact), the Multi-Collision Brake (brake the car to avoid further damage after an impact), the Side Assist (advanced blind spot) with Rear Traffic Alert, automatic Park Assist and Light Assist for automatic management of the high beam).
The engine range of the new Skoda Kamiq, combined with only the front-wheel drive and approved for Euro 6D TEMP , includes the 1.0 TSI petrol with 95 and 115 hp (175 and 200 Nm), the 1.5 TSI with 150 hp (250 Nm, with cylinder deactivation) ) and the 1.6 TDI diesel with 115 hp (250 Nm), in addition to the 1.0 G-TEC methane 90 hp (160 Nm). The gearbox is a 5-speed manual for engines under 100 hp, it becomes 6-speed for all the others. Available for the 1.0 TSI with 115 hp, the 1.5 TSI and the 1.6 TDI, also the 7-speed DSG.
