Presentation of the Pioneer car stereo AppRadio

We know for a long time, the car of tomorrow will be communicating. If communication systems has been around for years on high-end cars like the BMW 7 Series and Audi A8, these systems are far from accessible to everyone, and especially on this car, "Mr Everyone". With AppRadio, Pioneer reinvents the radio and has a revolutionary product!

An open car and almost limitless!

In recent years, car radios have evolved considerably by adopting the connectivity sources: iPod control, USB port, SD slot, Bluetooth phone ... But still, it remains closed systems and not scalable to new technologies. Now everyone (or almost saw the growth curve) has a Smartphone. Besides the basic telephone function, Smart phones we provide many daily services through their many applications. While some such as games or video are fun, some are really useful for the driver (weather, traffic, Google Maps for POI, ...). Unless you use a car PC with a 3G connection, his services were previously inaccessible to the general public in their car. With the new AppRadio Pioneer has revolutionized the radio and open to the world of communication.According to market research, motorists Smartphone owners wish to take advantage of the features of their smart phone in the car. There are many windshield suction cups to install the iPhone on the dashboard. But these systems are not integrated to the car and are not as practical as that. The GPS smart phone is low power. And above the screen is really small (3 to 4.3 inches depending on the model. Also, do not forget that using a smart phone in hand while driving is dangerous and prohibited by law (such as phone while driving) . To solve all these problems and meet the expectations of consumers, Pioneer developed the first car truly dedicated to the use of Smart phones by car. The AppRadio, its code name SPH-DA01, is certainly the multimedia car radio tomorrow!

The first car that opens fully to the iPhone!

But what is this little wonder? Just like with the Parrot Asteroid, Pioneer democratizes communicating car, but chose a different path to meet consumer demands high-tech. Why add to a product, functions that are already in Smartphone? Pioneer wanted a solution, simple and convenient, allowing to resume its functions and especially to limit the cost to the consumer. In fact, most communication systems require a car key with 3G subscription, while we already have a subscription in its 3G Smartphone. The AppRadio Pioneer uses the 3G connection for communicating, which avoids having two 3G subscriptions. Let us see in detail this unit AppRadio.

The purpose of the AppRadio is to use the Smartphone drive without its drawbacks

The AppRadio is combined with a double DIN touch screen 6.1-inch screen is three times larger than the iPhone. Viewing comfort is considerably higher than a Smartphone. Connected for his first car, Pioneer chose Apple and its famous iPhone. This is not the best-selling Smartphone, but the most symbolic, the approach was logical to launch a new generation of radio. But there is a good chance that Pioneer open to other OS like Android in the near future. The AppRadio is therefore compatible with the iPhone and the next four generations. Why not earlier models?Simply because the iPhone 3G or 3G can not get the applications by making the dock to the Apple smart phone. The AppRadio is a multimedia handset with an FM RDS tuner, an amplifier 4x50 Watts, a rear camera input, compatibility with steering wheel controls and a connection for the iPhone 4. No other source is the iPhone which will provide four music and applications to AppRadio. Note also that the AppRadio is the first car to be equipped with a capacitive touch screen multi-touch, that is to say, it works just like the iPhone.

By applying AppRadio, the SPH-DA01 open to new features

Specifically, that allows AppRadio? As we have said, it offers FM radio RDS, music control iPhone with playlist management and display of album covers, but mostly, it can get the iPhone apps on the touch screen. And there, applications are becoming very easy to use, since the screen is bigger and works with the same simplicity as the Apple phone. But it required a lot of development work in partnership between Pioneer and Apple. Indeed, applications are often portrait mode on the iPhone, while the double DIN is in landscape mode. In addition, these applications to be used while driving, they should be easier to use.

The AppRadio is compatible with the iPhone 4 and future generations

Compared to the iPhone, even if they work the same way, they are a redesigned ergonomic point of view. To counter the low power of the Smartphone GPS, Pioneer provides a GPS antenna with its receiver. The latter was also equipped with the Bluetooth remote with microphone to ensure perfect communication. Thus, the iPhone does not need to be on the dashboard to operate. Cable dock iPhone is long enough, you can put the Smartphone in the glove box.

Native applications to get started!

What applications do we have? For now, at the time of this writing, the AppRadio has native applications for iPhone. First of all, download the application from Pioneer AppRadio the Apple Store, which will allow it to bridge between the Pioneer car stereo and the iPhone 4. Then, after turning on the radio, the iPhone is connected and starts the application AppRadio. And there is magic, there are native applications for the iPhone on his car radio. There is Google Maps (to be on the map and see the way to do), loading of contacts from the iPhone, calendar, and photo viewing. Some applications are used as stationary vehicle for obvious security reasons (eg photos). For other applications, they have been redesigned from a usability point of view to be easily used. Thus, one can easily see its calendar to check the time of his appointment. This is only advisory, it can not complete the schedule by the unit. But this is logical, it would be dangerous while driving, and it makes more sense to do so directly on the Smartphone. The purpose of the AppRadio is to provide new services useful to the driver, without disturbing the pipe. This requires reviewing the applications.

Once the iPhone connected, everything happens on the touch screen of the AppRadio

Viewing the map on Google Maps, find a contact, make a call, play music, use the FM tuner, everything is as simple as child's play. Pioneer has worked extensively on ergonomics. Services, security, connected, these are the words of AppRadio. Of course, reading this, many will say that the combined Pioneer does not take many applications. Make no mistake, this is just the beginning. Technically, anything is possible and the unit could use all the iPhone apps. However, applications that will be used by the AppRadio are subject to validation of Pioneer and Apple. In addition, they must be reprogrammed for the screen size and ergonomics. But during the presentation, Pioneer has made some demonstrations (we can not reveal at this time these applications), and we can tell you that many applications will enrich the AppRadio. No way to find games like Angry Bird, this is not the purpose of AppRadio, Pioneer will offer in partnership with developers of applications, features that can really make to a service to the driver.

Search for an address on Google Maps with a large screen is much more convenient

What to expect in the near future? It is logical to think that one benefit of the Internet, e-mail, driving aids such as road traffic or POI databases, navigation, ... Technically everything is possible, and Pioneer is working hard on it with Apple and application developers to enrich AppRadio. The latter promises to be exciting because there is virtually no limit, since it is computer programming. We will keep you informed of future developments on AppRadio and present a complete test soon. The AppRadio will be marketed from June 20 at a price of 379 Euros. To have been manipulated a bit, saw some prototype development, AppRadio is promoted to a bright future and really revolutionized the multimedia drive. In addition to its iPhone look great, it fits perfectly in most dashboards, since Pioneer is developing integration kits. For the demonstration, a Fiat 500 was in fact equipped with AppRadio, whereas normally this car has a single DIN slot. And format of the double DIN AppRadio is not a problem since 80% of cars have a radio location to this dimension. And for cars with a specific form of radio, there are now numerous media integration. See you later this summer for a full test of this unit promises to be exciting!

Through integration kits, the AppRadio can be mounted in many cars

Alpine Sinister 6

Presented for the first time in Europe at the Cologne Fair, the Sinister 6 was the Alpine show car of CES 2006. On the occasion of his visit to Europe, we have seen in detail for you here. If the transformation of the car is spectacular, the hi-fi is just the same. And more so, she has no car unlike most show cars!

A facility without a radio!

Everything is in the title! Initially, the car was a BMW 645i convertible. After passing into the hands of the laboratory R & D Alpine USA, she became an amazing car in central pipe. One does not necessarily account like that at first, but the changes are enormous. And the strongest is that the car is actually rolling. Not to make the road course, but it moves by itself. And that hat, because if a body turns fairly easily with the fiberglass, the mechanical changes is another matter. Central pipe, more driving, it is replaced by a joystick (joystick right chrome features the BMW logo) which controls the direction electrically. In short, true to the habits of the Alpine house, Steve Brown and his team still made one of the most stunning cars shows it to be. Airbrush painting, mini windshield roadster rims 24 inch front and 26 rear, the Sinister 6 is really impressive!

With 5 screens facing the cockpit, it looks like a spaceship

But just in what we like most: his hi-fi of course. It has the distinction of not using radio. It is an Alpine V-Hub, which acts as a conductor. Recall that the V-Hub is an OEM multimedia interface, developed by Alpine Alpine sources to connect the screens of the original cars. The potential of the original video screens are rarely used by car manufacturers, the V-Hub allows a solution. In the case of the Sinister 6, the V-Hub control a DVD player, iPod Control, a browser and a satellite radio receiver. But instead of an original screen, it broadcasts multimedia content to 5 screens of 10 inches placed facing the driver. Futurist to the end, the Sinister 6 has swapped its retro exterior cons of video cameras. The V-Hub can distribute different content on each screen, giving the impression of really being in a spaceship.

To embark in the Sinister 6, the passenger turns to the left

But how does one install to control this monster? Elementary, the cabin is motorized and rotates to the left to pick up his driver. Then a little touch of a button, and returns to the cockpit driving position. When we say that a show because Alpine is spectacular. While seated in a tub with arm rests to reach all the controls, the driver is at the heart of the soundstage. On his left, the command of the V-Hub allows him to control the installation, while on the right are the controls of the BMW. This is obviously a multichannel system that has been done on the Sinister 6: Front, center channel, surround channels and subwoofer channel. Everything is handled by the processor PXA-H701 Alpine to Dolby Digital. The speakers were placed so as to provide a perfect soundstage to the listener!

All amplification is entrusted to the range PDX

In 2006, the car was also allowed to present the new range of digital amplifiers from Alpine PDX. There are no fewer than 11 in this car, for a capacity of over 8900 Watts RMS. Mono amplifiers are placed in what was the safe. The hatchback, if you can even call it that, behind the scenes to reveal the amplifiers. Multichannel amplifiers are placed in the back of the cockpit with a rotary iPod Nano. We do not see that if the carrier is open, ie pivoted on the left. All wiring and connectors are signed Monster Cable. The quality finish of the installation is as impressive as the show itself.

Both subwoofers are located in the rear bumper

Finally, 30 cm 4 subwoofers are loaded to produce low frequencies. To make the show even more impressive because, 2 are placed in the rear bumper, just like a jet engine nozzles. Between multimedia, sound quality and soundstage, the Sinister 6 is the feast of what will drive the humanoid. Needless to say that the work done on the BM is colossal. We love this style or not futuristic, but one can not remain insensitive to the imagination of the Alpine USA team!

In conclusion

An Alpine show car is the culmination of the ESC, the first thing one expects from the salon, the first thing you'll see. Moreover, in the early hours of the show, when I meet my compatriots (journalists or brands), the first question is: "Have you seen the show since Alpine! Each year, one wonders what that Alpine could do next year, as the brand goes a long way in achieving his show car. And each year, the brand is renewed dramatically and amazes us again. In 2006, it was really enjoyed with the Sinister 6. It has been two years in a row we've had no Alpine show car at CES, hopefully there will be one for the 2010 show, we miss a lot, and coaches shows are the soul of Alpine car audio . May our prayer be exalted, Amen! In this talk, we'll let you discover the gallery Photo Sinister 6. Happy surfing!

Change Dashboard for Multimedia Radios MBW 520 D

Today, many cars have a color screen in the dashboard for functions on-board computer, air conditioning, radio base, ... But the basic versions of these screens and car radios do not offer multimedia function. This is particularly true of the BMW 520 D Touring which shows us how to capitalize on the original screen.

Keep the original screen to use a multimedia car radio!

On the current cars, it is not uncommon for the screen color of the car also serve essential functions of the car (air conditioning, computer, parking sensors, ...). We can not completely remove the original car, it would lose these features. However, there are still solutions on certain cars like the BMW, to put an aftermarket car stereo multimedia instead of the original car radio.

It has done just that on this BMW. It has the color screen and a basic car, but do not have a GPS and multimedia features such as DVD. This requires know-how, but it is possible to mount a double DIN multimedia on this BMW, without losing the functions of the original system. Often there is no ready solution, and this type of work is the work of a specialist!

Originally, this BMW E60 has a color screen in the center of the dashboard

Initially, the car was disassembled Hifimobile original and the original screen. The original screen that have no audio / video interface Hifimobile rose OEM Davicom on the original screen. It will transfer the video signal from the radio to the original screen, and sound on the original installation of the car. This interface type is specific to the car, and Davicom (like other brands) offers many interfaces of this type. Then, the front of the car is uncoupled electronic box. The front of the radio buttons with air conditioning, it will be cut to keep only the plate with the heater controls.

Through an OEM interface, you can use the original screen for streaming multimedia

The electronics of the unit is dismantled to be relocated above the fuse box at the bottom of the glove box. It is essential to preserve the functional features of the car. Only the CD player will no longer suffice. At the center of the dashboard, it has a large shelter, which will set the caliper Hifimobile a combined double DIN Kenwood. This is the DNX65260BT was chosen for its comprehensive functions (DivX compatible DVD, GPS, Bluetooth, iPod control, USB port, ... Of course, the Kenwood is rewired to be compatible with the OEM interface and vehicle installation. Kenwood The handset is then clipped into the cradle as is done for all double DIN.

In place of the original car radio, fixed rack Hifimobile double DIN Kenwood

To replace the facade of the original car that has been deleted, Hifimobile remoulded bespoke facade reinforced resin. After several putty and sanding, we obtain a harmonious form, which blends into the design of the dashboard. To meet the aesthetics of the cockpit, the new facade is clad in a leather design very similar to the material of the dashboard. All functions of the car are stored, but instead of the original car radio, you have a multimedia station at the top!

A front fiber army is custom made to replace the original

If you wish to use the onboard computer, the video screen origin remains fully functional. Simply use the dial on the center console to navigate the on-board computer. With the OEM video interface, just press the scroll wheel on the BMW system to display the contents of the Kenwood on the original screen. We can spread the navigation or a DVD on the original screen. Even better, we can have an audio source on the receiver (eg iPod) and shipping on the original screen. Changes to the BMW are minimal. The design of the passenger is met, and it benefits from an excellent media source without losing the screen and the original functions. In short, a very nice integration. Our photo gallery allows you to discover all the steps in this assembly.

The onboard computer on the original screen and the audio can work together

BMW X1 Car Audio Review

After the X3 and the X6, BMW is expanding its range of four wheel drive in the X1, which has swelled the size of the 1 Series. Halfway between the urban and 4x4 compact sport sedan, the X1 should quickly attract motorists. As usual, BMW iDrive multimedia system offers on the X1.

Harman Kardon an installation option !

Like other BMW X1 multimedia system is optional or standard depending on model. It consists of three elements: a screen, a CPU and a joystick control called iDrive. Remember that this is a sort of wheel with central validation and some orders around, a bit like an iPod. You move a cursor and selecting the desired function is very convenient to use. To fall well under the driver's hand, this control system is placed just behind the gearshift. The core functions will also control the steering wheel. As usual, the screen is located in the top center of the dashboard.

According to the source model, it offers a dimension of 6.5 or 8.8 inches. A nice screen size, which offers very good viewing comfort. The screen doubles as a display for air conditioning. Basic unit is the laser model with RDS and auxiliary input for connecting mobile sources. Optionally, you can add a USB input, but the most interesting and certainly the most complete option is of course the Business and Professional. On this model, the CD is replaced by a DVD player.

USB, Bluetooth, GPS, the source is relatively complete

This option allows to have the big screen and especially a GPS with Europe maps to move around easily. The map data is stored in a disk drive. In addition to the system Park Distance Control (Parking sensor), this system can receive a rearview camera that displays images on its color screen. The navigation system can also be enriched with Bluetooth phones and MP3 playback from a mobile phone. When the system is equipped with Bluetooth, it then has a third possibility of controlling the system: speech recognition.

On the high-end system, the X1 features a beautiful 8.8 inch screen

Note also the ability to customize the iDrive control with buttons to access frequently used functions. The basic installation is content with 6 speakers: a kit exploded in front doors and HP in the rear doors. Optionally, you can opt for the hi-fi Professional which is signed by Harman Kardon. The system then consists of an amplifier with equalizer and 10 speakers for each passenger that takes full advantage of the music. Note also the possibility of adding a CD changer option. For rear passengers, the announcement does not mention the multimedia system, but we will discover more about the X1 at the Frankfurt show in September.

We find the usual course for iDrive control system

2009 BMW Z4 Car Audio Review

First BMW roadster to a retractable roof, the new Z4 is expected soon to unanimously by the beauty of its lines and its driving pleasure. Using an electro-hydraulic control, the roof takes only 20 seconds to open or close, to benefit from a coupe or convertible. The new Z4 roadster is also the first brand to adopt the new BMW iDrive system.

Internet access and more!

Like its big brother, the 7 Series sedan, the new Z4 equips a multimedia installation art. Sound equipment, navigation, multimedia, communication, the Z4 has all the latest technologies. But above all, and it's still very rare in the field of automotive entertainment system of the Z4 has unlimited access to the Internet.

Let's start with the audio system. It has of course been developed taking into account the specificities of a convertible. The audio system's most upscale contains 14 main speakers and two bass speakers. To feed all these HP delivers 650 watts of amplification. The source has a standard CD player with MP3 compatibility, a USB port and an auxiliary input. This source may be supplemented by a CD changer / DVD. It also has a Bluetooth interface for phone safely. But most interesting is of course the navigation system Professional.
With a high definition screen of 8.8 inches, it has a good visual comfort

To operate, it uses a high definition screen of 8.8 inches. Located in the center of the dashboard, the screen folds when not in use. The Professional navigation is of course equipped with the new iDrive generation, housed on the center console. The image of the iDrive button appears on the screen, making it even easier to use. Some buttons can be programmed for direct access to frequently used functions. Again for ease of use, the installation also includes a voice command and control driving.

The CD is located in the center of the center console

The mapping of the browser is stored in a disk drive 80 GB 15 GB hard disk can be used to record music. Copy the music from a CD or USB media. In addition to the navigation screen can display data from the radio, telephony, computer board, and even assistance in using the system. All conventional navigation functions are present. But the big news is of course Internet access. BMW is the first automaker to offer unlimited Internet access as an option.
The Z4 is equipped with the new iDrive

BMW Connected Drive brings new services to motorists: traffic info, information services, office automation, Internet, emergency call and trip planning. The trip planner allows a journey in stages, choosing the shortest route or the most beautiful. With BMW Online, the system can even do the tour guide giving details on the monuments that are crossed on the course. With Connected Drive, surf the Internet, find the nearest BMW dealership, ..., are no longer a problem. With all the services that it brings, internet car will really change the face of embedded multimedia. BMW has taken a serious head start on this new media technology!

2008 BMW 7 Series

At the Paris Motor Show, one of the biggest stars of the stand was of course BMW's new 7 Series. Fascinating journey, this large sedan with exceptional comfort, made from beautiful multimedia. Passenger entertainment, help for the driver, music, BMW has really great things: surely one of OEM multimedia systems the most successful!

Multimedia: the total!

Embedded in multimedia, BMW is not the first attempt on the 7 Series. Ten years ago, the 7 Series already offers telephony in the radio and TV reception in the car (a first at the time). But for 2008, BMW goes much further by offering a complete system for the driver, a video system for rear passengers, and especially the Internet is back in the car! At a time when information technology has invaded all areas of our lives, the Internet will surely drive to bring new services to the motorist. But for now, discover that facility.

The dashboard houses a 10.2-inch display to handle navigation and multimedia

The equipment that we present are available as standard or optional depending on the version of the 7 Series. But one thing is sure, BMW has really gone very far in terms of multimedia. For the base, the multimedia system uses the classic BMW iDrive, but revised and corrected to make it even more user friendly. To take full advantage of the system, the top of the center console houses a 10.2-inch screen, a first in OEM. For the base, the system offers multimedia navigation, playback CD / DVD, USB and an auxiliary input, Bluetooth for telephony. It even has a hard drive can store 12 GB of music. We can also add a TV tuner, DVD changer and a receiver for DAB digital radio (the latter is very useful for France, but will be in Germany and England). Instead of the conventional audio system, you can opt for the hi-fi Professional offers multi-channel sound.

Each rear passenger can have a screen and DVD player

That the driver remains focused on this conduct, the 7 Series can be equipped with a HUD. This reminds including speed limits. How? A camera is integrated into the mirror and films the road signs. This is compared with the database browser and the system will alert you if you drive beyond the limits. New ergonomics iDrive, iDrive control display on the screen, working with simple menus and clear, the multimedia system of the 7 Series has been optimized for its use is transparent to the driver. A great feat since the facility has many firsts in the field of electronics. For safety, a night vision system locates pedestrians, animals or obstacles on the road and tells the driver on the video screen of the car. Another interesting new feature, the user manual of the car is stored in the onboard computer. No need to exit the wholesale book paper, the iDrive can see this on the screen of 10.2 inches.

Internet access, head-up vision, tracking of pedestrians on the road, it's like in a James Bond movie

In the realm of security, we note that the BMW Connected Drive with assistance and emergency call. This allows to call for help or assistance in case of mechanical problems. In case of accident, thanks to the many sensors, the system will boot itself to call for help. He then warns the call center, indicating the type of collision (serious or not, the risk of injury as a function of shock, ...) which can then provide comprehensive information to emergency services providers. Finally, we saved the most interesting for last: the Internet! As an option, based on an unlimited data plan to be proposed at an attractive price, you can access the Internet in the 7 Series. The 10.2-inch screen displays web pages as seen on a home computer. Is the iDrive system that acts like a mouse to control the Net. In addition, we have a BMW Online service for any aid or information that the driver may need. Of course, for obvious reasons of security, Internet and video are not accessible while driving. One thing is sure, at the sight of all this, BMW has really made very clear: it is like in a James Bond movie. What made us dream in a little futuristic movies is now a reality! The electronics of tomorrow has not finished to be exciting!

BMW X6, Car Audio Review

At a time when the automotive landscape tends to become uniform, BMW created a new category of car, with the first 4x4 sport coupe. Ultimate luxury vehicle, the X6 receives a multimedia installation complete, standard or optional depending on model. Some features, offered as an option, even very rare.

At the Crossroads!

Communicate, navigate, listen to music, entertain rear passengers, the driver of tomorrow must have a facility that meets its criteria. Basic series, the X6 is equipped with a facility to 6 speakers with the iDrive system to control air conditioning, navigation, radio and CD player with MP3 capability. To further improve the functionality of the rotary iDrive system has 8 buttons say "favorite."

Like all high-end BMW, the X6 receives the iDrive system to manage the functions of comfort, communication and navigation

This allows the driver to program the 8 functions he uses most. Of course, the audio system can also be controlled by the multifunction steering wheel. Also note the presence of a USB port for connecting an MP3 player. Even better option may be added the HUD data for the audio system and navigation through the windshield. As usual, the 7-inch screen is located in the middle of the center console, while in the field of vision.

To entertain rear passengers, a video screen and DVD player are located in the rear center console

Bluetooth is also part of the equipment to phone safely. In addition to the obstacle detector front and rear backup camera is optional. One can also opt for rear-seat video. For this, BMW has a video screen between the two front seats on the rear of the center console.

In addition to the iDrive knob, the multimedia system is controlled from the steering wheel to the main functions

So that passengers can easily change the film, the DVD player is integrated into the bottom of the console under the heater controls back. In standard version, the audio system has 6 speakers. Optionally, you can opt for a multi-channel sound installation with 16 speakers. As we had already seen last year, automakers are becoming harder to follow the latest trends in electronics. USB, video, Bluetooth, multi-channel sound, the new X6 is fairly well equipped.
