Installation: Toyota Celica Oxygen Audio

Rather than presenting a show as excessive and inaccessible to young fans of car audio, Oxygen Audio chose the car of an enthusiast tuning. It's in the Toyota Celica as oxygen Claude presents its latest offerings of amplifiers and speakers.

Indulging at the lowest price

Certainly a show car is used to highlight the products of a brand, to convey the dream. Thus, brands tend to make stunning vehicles, but their budget is not feasible for an amateur, so they are real works of art on four wheels. Brand well known for its attractive prices, Oxygen Audio has been a very interesting approach: a very affordable installation in a vehicle trend, but perfectly feasible for a young car enthusiast custom.

Well-known figure in the world of tuning, Claude is not his first realization of showcar. He is the Panasonic Golf, Golf SPL Dynamics, and many others. Riding the trend Import Racer, Claude chose a Toyota Celica coupe for its realization 2007. This is a 1.8 Liter, base already very nice and very accessible on the second hand market. No question of excessive preparation above, the Japanese just a body kit to make it more sporty, a lowered suspension and nice rims.

Inside, two-tone upholstery and a few accessories are sufficient to complete the finish. This car has required nine months of work, including 10 days for the PA. Oxygen is vital for health. So to offer faster infusions Watts, Claude took a deco style light medical vehicle. But getting back to the hi-fi, what interests us most about this car.

Overview: Simple and effective

Contrary to what one might think, Oxygen has not chosen its products more upscale for this installation. All products come from the range Air2. The aim was to show that we can do something very nice facility with a simple and inexpensive.

The door panels have been reworked to include a location of 16.5 cm stiffer. A wedge in the medium is incorporated into original packing. The form is then finished with putty. The panel then receives a full dress two-tone faux leather. Each door speaker welcomes a two-way coaxial Air2 162, speaker who has the distinction of having a swivel tweeter.

For the rear channels, they are the same speakers that are used. They are installed in the rear blanks. These two pairs of coaxial are animated by the new four-channel amplifier range Air2. The F350 develops 4x75 Watts. Logo luminous display of tension on the cover, this amp is trendy without being too flashy.

The HP are mainly there to rear passengers

A powerful and enjoyable listening

The 4-channel amplifier is integrated in the left side of the trunk, on a support medium covered with imitation leather. For channel bass, Claude has opted for two 30-inch subwoofers, the Air2 12. They are installed in a sealed enclosure, made of medium and covered with imitation leather also. To mount the box in the car, the trunk floor was redone by a slab of chipboard.

Central rib, suspension structured subwoofers Air2 no lack of pace

Both subwoofers are powered by a Class D mono block range Air2. It is the developer M1.5Kw 1x350 Watts RMS. The subs are simple coil of 4 ohms, the amp is used in 2 ohms, allowing it to issue 1x700 Watts RMS. This amp is installed in the right side of the trunk. The connection comes from the catalog O2 Link division connectors Oxygen Audio.

The source is a multimedia handset with Panasonic 7-inch video screen

For the source is a multimedia handset Panasonic CQ-VD7003N is used. Being an older model, it lacks the latest technologies (DivX, iPod control), but it offers a beautiful picture and listening enjoyment. For rear passengers, an overhead monitor 12 inches (30 cm!) Was installed. Given the cramped interior of the coupe, the rear seat occupants are at the movies. The DVD is read by the source (not dual zone), the screen is only connected to the post for the video signal.

Given the simplicity of installation, the use of coaxial and non-split kits, we wondered what else it could give. Well surprise, we were surprised by hearing this facility. The sound is very clean, clear, vibrant and pretty well stamped. While this lack of detail and ventilation (especially on highly charged music), it sounds good.

The bass is strong, firm and without effects of heaviness or dragging. This is obviously a listening demonstration type, but with good sound quality. The extent and clarity of the mids have a lot to the feeling of listening enjoyment.

With a screen of 12 inches, rear passengers enjoy very pleasantly DVD

The sound is far from perfect, but it is not too low, contrary to what one would have thought at first. In fact, it sits very low in this cut, and adjustable tweeter compensates fairly well the height of the image. Of course, a kit with a broken tweeter positioned well have yielded better results, but remember that the aim was to present a very simple installation.

Oxygen from the catalog, the rearview mirror is hands-free kit with a display Caller ID

Even pushing strongly the volume, listening is always very clean, without smearing or distortion. In fact, the biggest downside of this installation is the lack of soundproofing. When listening at high volume levels, which is not always advisable course, the housing causing unpleasant vibration noise. Finally, the other main criticism concerns a lack of finesse. But given the type of system, the results are quite positive.

The notice

Certainly, this facility is at odds with coaches shows facilities or hi-fi shows that are usually, but it seemed interesting for its concept of simplicity and accessibility. Listening is pleasant with its sound lively, clear and dynamic. The housing supply in two 30 cm good feelings. Of course, listening to lack of finesse, detail and image noise is not perfect, but it is a demonstration facility and not hi-fi.

The show car Audio Oxygen has the merit of being trendy, fun and accessible

Everyone is not audiophile. This showcar Oxygen has a big sound oriented facility (it is meant listening powerful and alive), while having a good quality sound (pleasant tone and not messy, not deafening bass). Rather listening pleasure, as one can feel at a concert or a party.

Oxygen shows that there can be really fun with a simple and inexpensive installation. Remember that the budget already includes a video source expensive, which could well be replaced by a combined conventional laser (listening would not be worse).
