The Audi R8, developed and manufactured by quattro GmbH, has a commanding presence and agile on the road, with a length of 4.44 m, 1.90 m and a width of only 1.25 m high (Spyder: 1.24 m ). New details give the design an even more unmistakable. The single-frame, which extends upwards, painted in glossy black, consists of vertical embellished, the V10 versions, horizontal chrome inserts. New also the bumper, while the air vents on both sides are enriched with three transverse elements. On request, Audi fitted a front splitter in carbon fiber reinforced (CFRP). The new R8 V10 plus the splitter is standard. All variants of the Audi R8 mountain now standard headlights with new LED technology. The LEDs for the high and low beam lights are positioned above and below the daytime running lights arranged in a narrow band, with a special command that also act as indicators of direction. In the headlights are integrated static cornering lights.
The housing of the side mirrors and side-blade, the side vents of the coupe, the new flagship model R8 V10 are plus carbon fiber reinforced. On the ten-cylinder side protruding blades are more than those of the V8 in addition to being equipped with special borders. Even the skirts are slightly different. The R8 V10 Coupe grilles vent next to the rear are in aluminum look paint (on the R8 V8 Coupe and R8 V10 plus are in matt black). Upon request, the engine compartment is illuminated by LEDs, the R8 V10 plus this illumination and a partial coating of carbon fiber engine are part of the standard.
At the rear of the Audi R8 LED lights dominate. An innovation from Audi are the indicators with dynamic elements on the lower edge of the headlights, the light always moves outward in the direction of the turn. On the surface between the two air intakes, the R8 V10, which is painted in black gloss shiny, has positioned the new logo. This is the letter 'R' partially superimposed on a red diamond: the signature of Audi Sport. The large enclosure, available on request in carbon fiber reinforced version (standard on the R8 V10 Plus), has been placed higher. The exhaust system includes two terminals for all engine
round, shiny, that the R8 V10 plus are black.
The R8 is available in two body colors pastel white ibis and bright red, four and five metallic pearl effect paint / glass. Exclusive to the R8 V10 is also available plus a matt finish body. The blade side of the coupe is available in eight colors, the soft top of R8 Spyder can be black, red or brown.
The Audi R8 shows the great skill when it comes to use of lightweight materials. The body, aluminum Audi Space Frame technology (ASF), weighs only 210 kg in the coupe, the Spyder 216 kg. The R8 V8 Coupe with manual transmission has a curb weight of just 1,560 kg, 1,660 kg the open version. For the R8 V10 Plus, only available as a coupé, the pendulum stops at 1,570 kg. The bucket seats with adjustable structure in plastic reinforced with glass fiber (GFRP), the reduced use of insulating materials, the special light-alloy wheels and the frame parts, between which the series of ceramic brakes, as well as elements in carbon fiber reinforced applied on the body, contribute to the reduction of weight.
On the Audi R8 Spyder also the cover of the housing compartment of the hood and the side members are made of carbon fiber reinforced. The stylish, lightweight soft top, with linkage in large part made of aluminum and magnesium, is the culmination of ultralight construction of the car. It opens and closes electro-hydraulically in 19 seconds, even while driving at speeds up to 50 km / h. Independent from the top is the crystal temperature in the bulkhead between the cockpit and engine compartment, lifted and lowered by a switch, which also serves as a windbreak. In danger of overturning, behind the seats rise rapidly two strong profile elements, preloaded with springs.
As the vehicles intended for use in competitions, the aerodynamics of the Audi R8 is strongly oriented to the downforce. On the front of the underbody are five NACA air intakes and two speakers that increase downforce on the front axle. The coefficient Cx amounted respectively, depending on the engine or the version of the bodywork, a value of 0.35 or 0.36; the front surface measuring 1.99 m².
The engines are assembled by hand. The 4,163 cm3 displacement V8 and V10, from 5,204 cm3 of displacement, naturally aspirated engines have high efficiency: a concentration of power and charm. In combination with the new S tronic seven-speed, CO2 emissions are down by 22 g / km. In addition to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h now takes about three tenths of a second less. Both engines are compact and relatively lightweight. The base is made of an alloy of aluminum and silicon, and the type of construction, called the bedplate, ensures high rigidity. The dry sump lubrication allows to mount the engines in a lowered position; the circulation pump pressure is activated as a function of the load, to the benefit in efficiency.
The FSI gasoline direct injection allows a high compression of 12.5:1. Four adjustable camshafts actuate the valves. At low engine speeds and loads, the valves located in the suction channels carry the incoming air to make a precise rotating cylinder. The exhaust system is designed for low values of pressure. In the two tailpipes of the exhaust butterflies are present, in the presence of greater acceleration, the sound is even fuller.
The 4.2 FSI engine delivers 430 hp (316 kW) at 7,900 rpm, making available between 4,500 and 6,000 rpm and 430 Nm of torque. The R8 Coupe with S tronic, therefore, moves from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.3 seconds, before reaching a top speed of 300 km / h (with manual transmission: 4.6 seconds and 302 km / h). On the V8 R8 Spyder times are respectively 4.5 and 4.8 seconds, top speed more than 300 km / h. The R8 V8 quattro with S tronic coupe version consumes an average of 12.4 liters of fuel per 100 km.
The V10 engine delivers 530 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm, and develops 525 hp at 8,000 rpm (386 kW). The configuration of the drive shaft is of type 'common pin ", which show alternating intervals of ignition of 54 ° and 90 °. This structure combines maximum rigidity with light weight while creating an unmistakable sound of the V10 exclusive, similar to that of racing cars.
The Audi R8 V10 Coupe with S tronic changes from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.6 seconds with a top speed of 314 km / h. With manual transmission the values are 3.9 seconds and 316 km / h. From standstill, the R8 Spyder V10 S tronic reaches 100 km / h in 3.8 seconds and a top speed of 311 km / h (with manual transmission: 4.1 seconds and 313 km / h). The consumption of the R8 V10 Coupe with S tronic stood on an average 13.1 liters of fuel per 100 km.
The new top model is the Audi R8 V10 plus. It delivers 550 hp (404 kW) maximum power output compared with 540 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The R8 V10 Plus, only available in coupe, with S tronic changes in 3.5 seconds from 0 to 100 km / h reaching a maximum speed of 317 km / h and average consumption is 12.9 l/100 km. With the manual transmission's core values are 3.8 seconds, 319 km / h and 14.9 liters.
For the new Audi R8 are two types of transmission. The six-speed manual gearbox, whose lever moves in an open grill in stainless steel, is standard on the V8 and available on request for the V10. With the new S tronic seven-speed, on demand for the V8 and standard on the V10, the spacing is shorter and sporty, while the top gear is longer. With the dual clutch, the driver can directly make the shift selector lever or via paddles on the steering wheel, or alternatively there is a Sport mode. By pressing a
button, the device launch control manages starting with a regimen for greater acceleration and optimum tire slippage.
The new S tronic seven-speed, configured with three trees is small at less than 60 cm. Two clutches multi-disc, arranged for the first time one behind the other, drive two independent semicambi. The procedure of direct coupling, carried out through the opening and closing of the alternating clutches, takes place in a few hundredths of a second, virtually without interruption of traction force. The graft is dynamic, fluid and comfortable, so as to be almost imperceptible. From exchange seven-speed S tronic, the transmission shaft, passing through the engine block, reaches the front axle, where the torque is divided by a Visco clutch. Under normal driving conditions, about 15% of the torque is transferred to the front axle, if the rear wheels start to slip, is sent on the front still 15% of maximum torque. The rear axle is equipped with a mechanical limited slip differential. The distribution of tensile force on the back matches perfectly with the central engine of the Audi R8. The distribution of axle load has a ratio 43:57 (front: rear), with slight differences between the individual variants.
The frame's high performance sports uses technology borrowed from racing. The double triangular wishbones made of forged aluminum, all-wheel drive. The R8 V10 plus the springs and shock absorbers are specially calibrated values of the camber of the front axle and adapted accordingly. The Audi magnetic ride adaptive damping is standard on the R8 V10 is available on request for V8 variants, has a normal mode and a sport. The power steering provides a highly differentiated response, very sensitive, with a multiplication ratio of the sporty and direct.
The new R8 has large wheels. The versions with V8 engine mounted on the front wheels and 10.5 8.5 Jx18 Jx18 on the rear, with tires 235/40 and 285/35. For versions V10 Audi chose 19-inch wheels with wide 8.5 to 11 inches, the size of tires are respectively 235/35 and 295/30. Are available on request from looking particularly attractive design: mirror polished, titanium-colored or (on the R8 V10 plus) in glossy black.
The brake discs are ventilated super steel, drilled and joined by pins to the aluminum brake cups. The new design "Wave" discs, from the undulating outer contour, reduces weight by about 2 kg compared to round discs of equal size. The brake calipers fixed, aluminum, of the front wheels are equipped with eight pistons each, those of the rear wheels of four pistons each. In combination with the 19 "wheels, Audi ceramic brake discs fitted on request (standard on the R8 V10 Plus). The electronic stability control ESC offers a sport mode and can be completely deactivated.
The Audi R8 sports car is an extremely versatile. The front luggage compartment has a capacity of 100 liters, the coupe will offer a further 90 liters behind the seats. The long wheelbase, which measures 2.65 m, ensures excellent comfort. The interior of the passenger compartment are reminiscent of race cars, but with a more luxurious setting.
The distinctive element is the "car": the great arch that surrounds the dashboard at the driver's seat. The steering wheel is characterized by the crown flattened at the bottom. The multifunction steering wheel plus R8 profile, available on request, R8 is the new logo, which is also found on the gear lever or selector lever, on-sill, instrumentation and on the initial screen of the monitor board.
The electrically adjustable sports seats are available on request for versions with a V8 engine and standard on the V10 variants. Depending on the model variant, the coatings are a combination of leather and Alcantara or Nappa leather, the R8 Spyder special pigmentation reduces overheating caused by sunlight. On request, Audi provides bucket seats with more pronounced side panels for greater lateral support (standard on the R8 V10 Plus).
Various control elements and decorative elements are distinguished by the elegant presence of chrome or black paint; indicators of instrumentation and paddle were slightly modified. The center console and handbrake lever are covered in leather, embellished with fine stitching; V10 models also the frame of the navigation system plus standard is covered in leather.
With Nappa leather interior with diamond design, the seats and door panels have quilted linings; R8 Coupe on the sky is quilted Alcantara. Customers who wish to customize their cars than they can opt for leather pieces in different colors, inlays in Carbon Sigma (standard on the R8 V10 plus) or gloss black paint. There is also a wide choice of package design, package and leather look of Audi exclusive customization program.
