Honda e-Prototype: the retro-style electric sedan in Geneva Motor Show 2019

Honda Concept 2019
Countdown to the big news at Honda at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 : the Japanese company has released the first official images of Honda e-Prototype , the prototype that anticipates the electric compact size sedan and the retro style whose production will start in the second half of 2019 . Derived from the Urban EV Concept of 2017 that has been appreciated by the public and critics for its design vaguely inspired by the compact Japanese (but also European) of the 80s, this model is an integral part of the European electrification strategy of Honda .

Developed with a hatchback body, Honda e-Prototype offers a continuous, clean and regular surface, characterized by pull-out door handles, compact cameras replacing the traditional side mirrors and black panels with concave surface that incorporate the characteristic circular optical assemblies. LED . Simple shapes and essential details draw what Honda defines the "human face" of the car.

Added to this are interesting proportions , with large convex wheel arches, long wheelbase and reduced overhangs, elements due to the use of the new EV platform developed specifically to accommodate an electric powertrain. A powertrain designed for a purely urban use, with an autonomy of over 200 km and a fast charging system capable of providing 80% of autonomy in 30 minutes . Urban yes, but also fun, given the rear wheel drive .

And then there are the interiors , even more minimalist than the exterior without foregoing the contents: the melange cladding (material typically used for the furnishing of homes) are the background to an on-board system composed of a panel of 3 screens without apparent continuity solution, intended for instrumentation, infotainment and the electrical system. Honda promises "new generation digital controls" , able to facilitate the management of the many onboard functions.

The space on board is made more usable by the completely flat floor (both for the front and rear passengers), while the functionality is ensured by the presence of two additional displays (at the ends of the dashboard) on which images from external cameras are projected.

Honda NSX 2019: the hybrid supercar is faster and more pleasant to drive

Honda announces an update of the NSX hybrid supercar , a modern re-edition of the legendary sports car produced between 1990 and 2005.

On the occasion of the Model Year 2019 does not change the design, still fresh and distinctive, but are updated a number of components including the chassis and the hybrid powertrain setup , in order to make it even more pleasant to drive, on the track as on the streets of everyday.

On a mechanical level, Honda has equipped the NSX 2019 with new front and rear stabilizer bars , now larger and able to increase stiffness by 26% and 19% respectively.

At the software level, on the other hand, it improves the set-up of the Hybrid SH-AWD hybrid powertrain control system , for a quicker response of electric power steering, Vehicle Stability Assist system and active magnetoresistive suspension: the latter become more comfortable in life daily, while maintaining a more rigid option for track use.

Also new in terms of unsprung weight: the Continental SportContact 6 high performance tires come as standard , developed specifically for the NSX to improve grip in acceleration, braking and cornering, both on dry and wet surfaces.

A series of changes also affects the engine 3.5 V6, homologated according to the new standard Euro 6D TEMP and updated with new injectors, particulate filter and an unprecedented heat management system in the turbocharger.

Thanks to the innovations introduced, the NSX 2019 is able to run on the Suzuka circuit scoring a time of less than two seconds .

Small changes also affect the aesthetic sector, with the arrival of new customization possibilities: we start with the new Pearlescent Thermal Orange tint for the body and the carboceramic brake calipers (optional), passing through the chrome insert on the front grille that now it is the same color as the body and the glossy black finish of the air intake grille , both in front and behind.

The interior is unchanged, but now proposes the choice of the full red leather upholstery or, alternatively, the Indigo Blue coating that combines leather and Alcantara. The car can already be ordered, while the first deliveries are scheduled by the end of 2018 .

Honda CR-V Hybrid: consumption and details of the first Honda hybrid SUV in Europe

About two years after the presentation at the Los Angeles Motor Show, Honda CR-V Hybrid arrives in Europe (production will start in October while deliveries will take place in early 2019): this is how the i-MMD hybrid system works (Intelligent Multi-Mode Drive) , for the first time available on a Honda SUV in Europe.

Honda's hybrid system consists of two electric motors (powered by a lithium-ion battery) and a 2-liter Atkinson i-VTEC petrol engine , optimized to be as efficient as possible. First of all, the fact that this powertrain eliminates the need for a mechanical transmission: in its place there is a direct transmission , equipped with a single fixed ratio, which guarantees a transfer of the most fluid torque . Absent therefore the traditional (and often criticized) e-CVT gearbox present on the classic hybrids in use on the other hybrid vehicles on the market.

The continuous transmission allows you to travel according to three driving modes . For all, direct transmission is able to scale automatically without torque interruptions :

EV Drive : the petrol engine is off and the car travels in 100% electric mode (autonomy is not specified)

Hybrid Drive : the excess energy generated by the petrol engine feeds the second motor / generator that integrates the electricity supplied by the battery system. This is the most efficient mode at medium-low speeds, where the electric motor intervenes for about 50% of the time (one third of the time, however, at higher speeds).

Engine Drive : the wheel traction (which, we remember, is both front and full ) is provided only by the petrol engine (the electric only intervenes in the event of abrupt shooting). This will be the most efficient mode at high speeds, for example on the motorway.

Among the peculiarities of the i-MMD system there is an "imperceptible" passage between the different power sources . All information related to the hybrid system (energy flows, driving mode) will be displayed on the central display with DII (Driver Information Interface) .

At the launch, Honda also confirms the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions figures of the new CR-V Hybrid. Based on NEDC tests, the front-wheel drive model records CO2 emissions of 120 g / km , with consumption in the combined cycle of 5.3 l / 100 km . The four-wheel drive version instead emits 126 g / km , with an average fuel consumption (in the combined) of 5.5 l / 100 km .

Honda: 3 screens for the interior of the electric prototype

Honda , preparations are underway for the presentation of the semi-final prototype of electric cars inspired by the forms of Urban EV: after the teaser of the front (branched in recent days) here is revealed part of the interior of the concept that we will see at the next Geneva Motor Show (5 -17 March).

An essential dashboard, with horizontal development, dominated by a triple LCD panel that makes up the totally digital instrument panel on the one hand, and the interface for managing the electrical system and on-board infotainment on the other. This is a solution used today - but with only two screens - by manufacturers such as Mercedes and Hyundai (only on Nexo), even if inspiration comes directly from the dashboards of the '80s, an influence that will also be visible in the design general exterior, as anticipated by the Urban EV Concept shown at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The final version of the bridge should not deviate too much from this "triple-screen" solution , of which probably the two on the right with touch technology. From this teaser we can also confirm some of the features related to the electrical part, such as pre-heating , and infotainment, such as HDMI support .

Not only that: on the rightmost screen is a virtual model of the vehicle , which reveals a line not too dissimilar from that of Urban EV Concept. Finally, note the wood finish that runs along the entire board, an element that offers an additional opportunity to talk about the dichotomy between technology and tradition.
