Opel Insignia Continues to Improve

Opel Insignia continues to improve, his flagship success. Since January 2012, completes the Opel diesel engine with a new BiTurbo dynamic and at the same time very efficient. The 2.0-liter engine delivers 143 kW/195 hp CDTI and 400 Nm of torque, and fuel consumption start from just 4.9 liters per 100 kilometers (129 g / km CO2) and thus make the Insignia BiTurbo a medium with lower consumption and emissions . The new four-cylinder common rail turbo is twice sequentially with two stages of compression, a technology previously limited to a few brands with higher price levels and now Opel makes it accessible to a wider customer base. The new engine can be paired with front-wheel drive or (AWD). Insignia 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo is available from 33,500 euros. With the new year increase innovation in the range Insignia. Each version can be ordered with AWD chassis SuperSport characterized by the front suspension of the Insignia OPC (Opel Performance Center) with high-performance columns (HiPerStrut) that further increase the dynamic characteristics of the car.

In addition, the new driver assistance systems which is equipped with radar Insignia further increase active safety. The intelligent BiTurbo improves performance and reduces power consumption. The new 2.0-liter 143 kW/195 hp CDTI BiTurbo and 400 Nm of torque has been designed to be particularly agile, responsive and fluid phases of acceleration. Insignia BiTurbo accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 8.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 230 km / h. Fuel consumption and emissions are extremely low, however. The 4-door front-wheel drive versions will stop it only 4.9 liters 100 kilometers (129 g of CO2/km). All versions equipped with manual transmission are equipped with Start / Stop, the device that makes it one of the most parsimonious Insignia mid-size cars.

"At these levels of power and torque are chosen usually diesel engine with around six to three liters. With our technology BiTurbo, smaller engines generate power even higher, while ensuring a reduction in fuel consumption and emissions by 30 percent, "says chief engineer of the Insignia Volker Scharf. "This is a great example of 'downsizing by Opel." Sequential compression decrees the end of the typical delay of the turbo. In the innovative system BiTurbo Insignia, two turbochargers of different sizes operate separately or together. Among the competitors, Opel is the only manufacturer in the segment of medium to offer this sophisticated technology in a sequential turbo-charged diesel engine.

The compressor provides the smallest boost at low engine speeds. This means that the accelerator pedal responds without delay, thus preventing the annoying "turbo-lag." Starting from 1500 rpm, we can already count on a torque of 350 Nm - the average level of powerful diesel in the segment of medium. At intermediate speeds, the two compressors work together: the more makes the prestressing of the intake, before the full compression from the smallest device. The bypass valve is subjected to continuous monitoring and sends the exhaust gas turbine to larger, allowing the driver to always have a powerful acceleration. At higher revs (from about 3000 rpm), the gases are sent directly to the turbine's largest, to obtain power at higher speeds.

The main objective in the development of the 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo was to ensure high efficiency of the supercharger already starting from low revs while maintaining the responsiveness of the accelerator in mid range. The incoming air is optimally sorted as a function of engine speed and needs' of the two turbochargers. At lower speeds an additional liquid-cooled intercooler, linked only to a small compressor ensures that the reduced air flow goes directly to the combustion chamber through a conduit dedicated. For intermediate speeds comes increasingly into play the larger and more powerful compressor. The flow of air, now over, is cooled by the traditional larger intercooler. Opel is the first brand to use this system of "double cooling".

Opel has improved the efficiency of their engines by adopting the innovative Cleantech technology that controls combustion via an electronic closed loop. The sensors measure the pressure mounted on glow 130,000 times per minute, so that the motor operates continuously in the window of optimal maximum performance while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The third-generation common rail direct injection engine withstands pressures up to 2,000 bar and brings the fuel to the injectors controlled piezoelectric performing up to eight injections per cycle, providing a very efficient combustion process and minimizes noise and emissions. With the new 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo at the top of the range Insignia in some country are now present three turbo-diesel common-rail direct injection with outputs from 81 kW/110 hp to 143 kW/195 hp.

An offering unmatched in the industry improvements introduced in September 2011 for model year of the Insignia family focused mainly on reducing the consumption of the best selling (new petrol 1.4 Turbo Start / Stop with CO2 emissions of just 134 g / km and the new version of the 2.0 CDTI ecoFLEX 118kW/160 hp with CO2 emissions of just 115 g), while the new features introduced since the beginning of 2012 adds significant technology and premium quality Opel flagship. The new 2.0 CDTI BiTurbo is available on all versions of the Insignia, four-door sedan and Sports Tourer station. Customers can choose the manual gearbox or six-speed automatic and front-wheel drive or full (with locking rear differential). The driving dynamics can be increased further by choosing the FlexRide mechatronic chassis.

The level of choice is unmatched in the industry averages. Chassis with High Performance Strut SuperSport available for all 4 × 4 Insignia Another important innovation for all-wheel-drive versions of the Insignia is the frame SuperSport, which is available on request. This technology was previously reserved for the top of the range sports model OPC (Opel Performance Center) and is now being made available to a wider customer base. The package includes FlexRide mechatronic chassis with active electronic suspension, Brembo brakes, high performance front suspension HiPerStrut (High Performance Strut), already on the 325-hp Insignia OPC to further improve handling and steering precision. The new driver assistance systems with radar further increase the safety not only improved performance: even active safety has been significantly increased thanks to the new radar system located behind the front grille.

Insignia customers can now choose the Active Cruise Control (ACC), which maintains the set speed during cruising and automatically adjusts the vehicle speed depending on traffic conditions to maintain a safe distance to vehicles ahead than default. Together with the radar in dell'Opel Eye provides additional functionality: the distance indicator Following Distance Indication (FDI) visually communicates to the driver the distance to the car in front, the Forward Collision Alert (FCA) visual warning signals and aids in case of imminent collision with the car in front. The Imminent Collision Braking (CIB) using the radar system in combination with the Opel Eye and decelerates automatically if it detects the risk of collision.

New engines for the Opel Insignia 2012

Since its launch, the Insignia has received more than 50 national and international awards, including the most prestigious title of "Car of the Year 2009". Customers have confirmed the critical acclaim with a sustained demand - up to now the flagship of the brand sales have exceeded 400,000 units. Thanks to new petrol engines and technology, the Insignia is set to continue its history of success with the model year 2012. Prices from 25.900 Euros 1.4 petrol turbo engine newly developed, is the product of a "downsizing" without compromise. Because it is the greenest petrol engine in the D segment, together with six-speed manual transmission, the device Start / Stop, the electric power steering, aerodynamic underbody coating and 225/50 R 17 tires low rolling resistance.

Taken together, these actions reduce the sedan version of two liters per hundred kilometers fuel consumption of the turbo 1.4, which drops to 5.7 liters per 100 kilometers. The fall in CO2 emissions to 134 grams per kilometer. The torque from the gasoline engine more environmentally friendly in its segment increases instead of almost 15 percent, and now is 200 Nm.

With these values, the Insignia 1.4 Turbo can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in just 10.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 km / h. The flagship model of Opel House is available with this engine in sedan or Sports Tourer as well as the latter, with a consumption of 5.9 liters per 100 km and CO2 emissions to 139 g / km, is at the top the station wagon segment.

Among the optimizations introduced in the new engine there are new reports of transmission, which help to reduce consumption and improve the agility of the car. The electric power steering REPS (Electric Power Steering Assist Rack) mounted for the first time Insignia, ensures maximum comfort, with the ability to adapt its characteristics even more flexibly to any driving situation. A significant advantage of the REPS system is the potential fuel savings, and therefore a reduction of CO2 emissions, because it does not always rely on the hydraulic pump is used, but the electric power steering system is running only when needed.
