Danew has a GPS with HUD

Typically, a browser, whether portable or fixed, forced to look away from the road to see the road signs. Even if it is only a few seconds, a security point of view, this is not ideal. To solve this problem, Danew Headup presents the D-4.5: a browser to HUD.

D-4.5 Headup presents itself as a small box with suction mount that is placed between the cap block counters and the windshield. This GPS projects an image of 4.5 inches on the windshield transparency. This gene is therefore not visible, and can see the map without taking your eyes from the road. One study showed that look away for one second in town at 50 km / h is 14 meters traveled, this system is very interesting from a road safety point of view. It automatically adjusts its brightness and has a day / night mode. Since there is no touch screen, the device is controlled with a remote control to set the steering wheel (support provided). This browser has the 3D map of Europe with all the usual functions. Optionally, you can add a voice command and a TMC antenna. This innovative GPS will be marketed from late March priced at 299 Euros off .

PMD-200505R, Navigation Pack Alpine Test

As one of the leading car audio, Alpine has a navigation pack very interesting and even innovative. PMD-200505R consists of a combined double Din IVA-W505R and a mobile browser Blackbird. Given the benefits, the PMD-200505R pack has a value very attractive price!

A copy feature!

Alpine this is a very interesting technical innovation and unique. The Blackbird portable navigator fits inside the double din motorized behind the facade. So navigation is on the big screen by 7 inch double Din, much more comfortable as the screen of a portable navigation. Need the browser in a second car (rental for example), simply eject the Blackbird and use it on the windscreen mount supplied. One investment, and we have two browsers. Only one browser where it stores its address book: very convenient. Combined high-end, the IVA-W505R is distinguished by excellent benefits!

Benefits: two in one!

Begin by presenting the mobile browser. With a beautiful touch screen 10 cm, the Blackbird has a European Navteq mapping stored on a hard disk 6 GB of course, the mapping has the radar sites and a library of POIs. Only criticism she lacks the historical monuments in 3D. However, thanks to the TMC and V-Traffic, you can navigate by taking into account the real-time traffic. Also note the presence of Bluetooth phones and an SD slot for MP3/WMA music. Finally, the Blackbird comes with all necessary accessories: cables, windscreen mount, cover, ... A GPS antenna is of course provided for the combined double din that has the dock's home Alpine PND.

The Blackbird is inserted behind the facade motorized

Apart from the navigation system, the thing that distinguishes the IVA-W505R is its touch-screen video of 7-inch 16:9. With a WVGA resolution, it allows viewing quality markedly superior to conventional screens. For the car, we can talk about high definition. To take full advantage of the DVD player is compatible with virtually all formats, including DivX. The IVA-W505R has a USB port and can control the iPod. For the latter, the control function is complete audio, video and photos. A special cable is supplied with the unit. Of course, input and output audio / video outputs are also lines of the game. With dual zone, you could power deported screens for rear passengers.

Alpine has not forgotten scalability. Optionally, the IVA-W505R may receive a reversing camera, CD changer / DVD, excellent tuner brand (TEU-T150TNT) and an IR remote for rear passengers. You can also add the famous Imprint processor which is programmed automatically with a PC so it sounds hi-fi. Also note the presence of an S-Video can help connect a PC. We will not touch the control, but the display quality is sufficient. For conventional receiver functions, it has an RDS tuner, an amplifier 4x50 Watts and compatibility with the original steering wheel controls. You can also add optional Bluetooth module, but in this case it is not necessary because the phone function of Blackbird is taken up by the double din.

Radars, TMC, POI, Bluetooth, the Blackbird is complete

Discover and use: an exceptional screen quality!

Tested in DVD and Freeview, the video screen has really stuck by its image quality. The image is fine, detailed, colorful, high contrast, short to watch a movie, we enjoy. Listening, it was equally pleased, musicality readers Alpine is well established. Our test car had the Imprint processor and had retained its original speakers. The metamorphosis of listening with the Imprint is still staggering. The integrated amplifier provides sufficient momentum. Attacks are free, but if one likes to listen hard, it'll use the line outputs and a power amp. No problems to report on the tuner, radio reception is very good. The control interface of the iPod is very nice with the display of album covers.

The interface is relatively intuitive, is used very easily on the handset. By cons, we would have liked a more modern graphical user interface, more fun with small icons for the different sources. But hey, this is not essential and Alpine still offers the ability to customize the wallpaper. The telephone function works smoothly, with very good communication. While sailing, the Blackbird has always conducted safely, but we would have liked the modern features such as 3D landmarks and Text to Speech. Operation is simple and routing instructions are accurate. Whatever the sources, the PMD-200505R pack was very pleasant and efficient.

Scalability issue, it is hardly better

The notice

Based on the combined double Din upscale brand, this pack PMD-200505R presents a value very attractive price. In most cases, the package price (1390 Euros the recall) is very much within the OEM price of an option. In addition, the Alpine system allows a browser set in the main car and a PND for a second car, and that with a single investment. Add to this excellent scalability, outstanding image quality, comprehensive benefits and excellent performance, what more? Our test car was equipped with more CPU Imprint, to reconcile multimedia and hi-fi listening. Honours also to the TNT brand that fitted to the Golf test the image quality is really a "massacre" as they say. Definitely a must to achieve a high-end multimedia installation!

The screen of the IVA-W505R offers exceptional image quality

Alpine Blackbird portable GPS

Independently or connected to a video screen Alpine

I just try Alpine Blackbird. Here are my first impressions! After making a quick connection via the cigarette lighter, so I used in standalone like any average user would have to do.

It is not connected to my car multimedia video screen Alpine IVA-D300, otherwise the display would be black and Blackbird orders placed directly via the touch screen of the IVA-D300. It is a specific innovative product. It can be connected directly to an Alpine video screen via a special adapter that serves as finally fixed, or removable in case of using the Blackbird also in another vehicle.

Getting Started friendly

The grip is very friendly, the usage is very little different from other PND brands, so a bit different from usual interface Alpine car navigation products (browser screen video with fixed).

The operation is effective, with a tiny flat on the GPS positioning at startup because of my thermal windshield that makes the process a little slower. But when the positioning was done, I had no glitches. Recalculations on route changes are random rather fast. I took some shortcuts that I know well, it's a blackbird (translation into French of Blackbird), in the countryside should not be lost and he did well.

Faced with an embedded system

I compared it to my car navigation system via a PC drive connected to the auxiliary audio / video screen Alpine IVA-D300. The recalculation is a bit slower but it is surely due to the repositioning made slower by the thermal windshield. I just did it on purpose to get a good compréhenssion the phenomenon: a recalculation on the PC is almost instantaneous (less than 2 seconds), the blackbird is 4 maximum. But in 4 seconds, the distance is not very large, so a replacement is being found quickly to resume its path.

Cons by the route calculation is pretty fast, so it will not change too users Series Alpine NVE-N077-board or 099. Since I have not customized user menus, I have not explored everything alone, mostly as regards the use mode TMC. For this, we must dock to connect to a multimedia station Alpine. I have not explored either the use of radar maps that are not pre-installed I suppose, but I did not really dug into the menus.

So I made a rather direct use out of the box: if you are good salesman, the customer should be able to use it to go home without major worries, if you enter the correct address!

The opinion

I confirm that this is a good product. Of course, 549 €, it is not cheap. But lately, I think I can say I've been sitting for some products as expensive or more, who will struggle to get her ankle.

He just lacks Bluetooth, but Alpine already provided for the second version due out shortly in the USA and later at home.

Zenec ZE-NC2040 Test

Having focused primarily on new vehicles, the range E> GO Zenec focuses on vehicles that are experiencing a great success on the second hand market. The ZE-NC2040, which was just released, is dedicated to the VW Golf 4, Audi A4 and Audi A6 B6 version C5.

A complete multimedia station and fully integrated!

This handset takes Zenec course all the strengths of the ZE-NC2010 famous for Golf 6. The ZE-NC2040 has the same design of the original source, fasteners, wiring and of course the steering wheel. Thus, this unit is fully plug and play "in the car, and takes only minutes for installation. The ZE-NC2040 naturally benefits from improvements in 2010 as the GUI. With benefits clearly exceed the original sources and a very reasonable price, the ZE-NC2040 has everything to appeal to owners of VW and Audi cited in the introduction.

Benefits: Really full!

Visually, this handset looks like a classic double Din, except that the keys are distributed on the left and right of the facade as the original source. In the center features a beautiful 6.5-inch touchscreen in 16:9 format to control all camera functions, and they are numerous. The main source is a DVD player compatible with virtually all formats, including DivX. To connect the sources nomadic Zenec made it big. In front, it has a SD card reader and an audio / video form mini-jack. To connect USB sources, an iPod or iPhone, MP3 player or audio / video Zenec remains faithful to its principle of Box Media: Small box with these outlets and place where you want.

Aesthetic, friendly, intuitive, new graphical interface is a success Zenec

Zeneca, however much revised its copy with a box much smaller and therefore easier to integrate. It connects well to the rear of the car. The length of cable is sufficient to place the Media Box in the glove box or in the armrest. Thus, the ZE-NC2040 has a USB port, control iPod / iPhone. For telephony, Zeneca has called on specialist wireless Parrot. This station is equipped with a hands-free kit with Parrot download the phonebook. A microphone is built into the facade, but also provides a micro Zenec deported for better communication quality. For navigation, Zenec remains faithful to Igo 8 with European maps from Navteq. The latter is stored in internal memory, thus leaving open the SD slot for digital files.

The Media Box allows you to connect iPods, USB drives, or portable audio / video

The updates are via USB without worries. No need to represent Igo 8, the system is known for his highly comprehensive. To navigate, taking into account the real-time traffic, Zeneca provides a TMC module to connect to the radio. The case is very compact, it easily conceal in the dashboard. To the traditional functions, the ZE-NC2040 has a tuner FM RDS 18 submissions, 4x50 Watts amplifier with equalizer, 2 remotes and IR function Dual Zone. Zenec has not forgotten scalability. For those wishing to make a film installation, this installation has a 5.1 output and audio / video inputs for connecting other sources. Optionally, you can add a TV tuner and reversing camera so as to have a multimedia installation complete.

Discover and use: simple and efficient!

Let's start with ergonomics. The home screen with small icons as "desktop" is really beautiful. On each source, the interface is friendly and intuitive, which makes great use of the device without reading the manual. From a usability standpoint, Zeneca has really made great progress: whatever the source, the ZE-NC2040 is very pleasant to use. To nitpick a little, we would love to be able to customize the home screen (wallpaper, icons move) as it does on a smartphone. We find that this course has been the strength of Zeneca: a screen with excellent image, color, contrast and light. Watching movies on this handset is a treat. The DVD offers very good audio quality. This is perhaps not an audiophile player, but the musicianship is very good and sufficient for a large majority. The integrated amplifier provides a very good dynamic. If using HP quality live music well and it helps to have some fun without getting into a complicated setup. That said, this handset with a 5.1 output and Dolby Digital, we will opt instead for a film installation.

Mapping aesthetics, speed, accuracy, ease of use, the browser is excellent

The Bluetooth feature does not pose any problem. It's Parrot, nickel and it works it took us a few seconds to pair our phone to the car radio. The directory is then loaded into the device and the ZE-NC2040 makes calls in comfort without changing their mobile phone. The call quality is very good, but it is better to use the microphone supplied with the remote device. Mobile source control as the SD card and USB is no problem. The interface is well designed, and it flows easily into different folders of digital media. Both can play audio files, photo and video. IPod control is also compatible with the latest generation of which the famous Apple iPhone.

IPod control works very well, but it lacks the display of album covers

The control works very well, and you walk very easily in different playlists. The interface shows the correct files on the iPod. However, we are really above the interface does not display album covers. This is certainly not essential, but so fun and enjoyable. There is also no playback video files of Apple music player, but this is offset by other digital media that can play video files compressed. Finally, the browser remains a model. We do not dwell on it, since we have already spoken repeatedly of Igo 8. But to summarize, ease of use, speed calculations, precision guidance, are the hallmarks of this browser. Of course, it has all the features of modern GPS. Ultimately, to be demanding, we would have liked solved Live services currently found on PND communicating. Anyway, today it offers no source, we can not blame the Zeneca.

The opinion

For owners of Golf 4, Audi A4 B6 Audi A6 C5, this handset is really a must. It will be perfectly integrated to the board, respecting the original design and allowing installation without modification. The benefits are comprehensive and the handset is evolving. Of all the sources, the performances are very good. Our only real regret is the lack of displaying album covers. In short, nothing really important. Situated less than 1100 Euros, the ZE-NC2040 gives excellent value for money and has a very good value for money. And more so, as this unit is evolving to realize a multimedia installation at the top!

TNT and optional rearview camera, 5.1 output, this handset enables a multimedia installation at the top

Navigation fixed or portable navigation?

The world of onboard navigation is constantly changing. A conventional solution what was the color screen built into the dashboard have been grafted portable solutions of interest.

Initially, the car navigation

Navigation affecting more and more people. Even if we find it available as standard or optional equipment in most new vehicles on the market today, the market for used car also has its say! And then when the navigation option is not implemented in a vehicle home, the price of the option is to think twice. Manufacturers of aftermarket and not idle at your disposal a number of solutions built mostly around a radio. This unit can be a classical model (say 1 DIN) on which the navigation information displayed as a pictograph. It may also be a multimedia powerhouse that serves as car radio, DVD-Video and navigation system. The centerpiece is of course the large color screen. But today we no longer have to confine her to the solutions proposed by the manufacturers of car radios.

The current offer

The market has recently seen the emergence of portable solutions on various media. The offer is so diverse that you can now get lost. Then summarize! We have a hand cleaner products to electronics: car radios with navigation 1 DIN size, systems with color screen and remote central radio / multimedia / navigation screen to do anything with video. On the other, portable solutions are multiplying: dedicated GPS with color display, PDA navigation and mobile phone navigation.

That is actually 6 types of products possible for the same goal: to find the right path without having to card and paper and will be guided. As you can imagine, all these systems are not equivalent in terms of performance.

Portable solutions

In the field of portable solutions, browsing with PDA has made its way through rates more attractive. Recall that a PDA is a PDA (Palm OS or Windows Pocket PC) that does much more than the public agenda today. By adding a GPS unit, a memory card with a map and the right software, it transforms your PDA into a real navigation system. But beware, this type of system is often reserved for lovers of technology. The configuration of such a system, even if it is very simple, may repel the average user who prefers the practical and ready for use. For him, dedicated GPS systems are available. As a module with screen surrounded by a few keystrokes, these systems are very easy to use. It plugs into the cigarette lighter, it is placed on the dashboard and it remains only to enter their destination! The use of such products is limited only to the GPS, although the latest models are also capable of storing compressed music! Finally, in mobile, new solutions are increasing for mobile phones called "smartphone" (or smart phones with integrated calendar, memory card reader, etc.).. We can then build on the screens of these phones into a GPS that was always with you. The limitation here is obvious: the size of the screen. But the basics are always there to bring you to your destination. Besides with a GPRS or 3G connection, you can receive continuously updated maps.

Stationary solutions

Most car manufacturers therefore offer solutions for every budget, from 500 to 3000 Euros. So what makes the difference between models with prices so disparate? Browsing "basic" is featured on all models: one enters its destination, the system calculates the route, then he leads us through her soft sweet voice. Whatever the price, the minimum is there. Then, the higher the range, and more and more features appear. We can change the screen color display and 3D sound for some manufacturers. One can also access information on the traffic that we will avoid all caps. The mapping is then passed onto a DVD-ROM instead of a CD-Rom. Which can cover the whole of Europe or to have at its disposal many points of interest placed on maps as ATMs, gas stations, etc.. On the most advanced models, there is usually a touch screen for entering addresses easier. Manufacturers provide their jewelry all the possible refinements to the use of these systems is highly sophisticated technically simple as possible and accessible to all.

So, fixed or mobile?

The answer is that you have it! See for yourself where you put your interest: if you want your navigation system to be more than if you are looking for the convenience for use in multiple vehicles or even if you want the most of opportunities, developments and Opening on multimedia board. Keep one thing in mind: in this as in many others, a higher price necessarily brings the functionality, performance and extra comfort!
